FWIW, when the Moto X was first released, I was talking with some Googlers, and I asked them if they were going to upgrade to it. Resoundingly, they were sticking with a Nexus.

Nexus 4 or Nexus 5?

If I had a 5, I wouldn't be considering upgrading.

If the provider I'm considering going with had a Nexus 5, I'd grab it in a heartbeat.

The Moto X has a rather spectacular bit of camera software, but other than that seems to be stock android. It does look significantly better than my Nexus 4.

The Nexus 6 is ... big. And expensive. They do carry it, and the specs are dreamy, but...

At the time, I believe they had Nexus 4s.

I own this phone. It's great. What specifically do you want to know?

Just waiting for Lollipop on my Note 4.

Knowing Sammy/VZW, it'll be June.

Phones now do much more than I can use, so mainly battery life, and signal strength. The Build quality looks stellar. What about wireless charging?

I just sideloaded the OTA (no device wipe necessary) on my WiFi Only 2012 N7.

While I love a lot about Lollipop, I'm not sure this hardware is adequate to do it justice.

I suspect the GPU is just not capable of running it smoothly....

It's early. We'll see...

Google loves including fun little Easter eggs in its products, and Lollipop is no exception. Go into your system settings, select "About phone" (or tablet) and then tap the line labeled "Android version" a bunch of times in a row.

When you see a large Lollipop graphic appear on your screen, tap the circle part of the image about five times and then press and hold your finger to it. You'll then be taken into an Android-themed Flappy Bird-like game, with lots o' lollipop obstacles to jump through and avoid.

Battery Life: Excellent. Can go a full day doing texting, tethering for an hour on my lunch for my laptop, checking Blinkfeed (their news/social media aggregater app) every now and then, go running in the evening for 25-45 minutes with music going full blast through the speakers and a running app with GPS tracking. Still end the day with 20-30%. I have even accidentally left my phone off the charger some nights and find I still have about 10-20% left when I wake up. Playing a Nintendo DS emulator with my PS3 controller bluetooth'ed to the phone for an hour or so doesn't much dent the battery.
Signal Strength: I don't make a lot of voice calls. Tucson sucks for reception and all houses in my area just seem to blunt the signal. Out in public, it seems to do fine.
Build Quality: It's metal, it's pretty, and it's slippery. I had to get a TPU case. The one I have is completely clear on the back and black around the edges, so it goes well with my phone. But I don't get to appreciate its looks as much. I have dropped the phone without a case on thin carpet and no problems. I have dropped it with the case several times, even face down, when out running and no problems. HTC gives you a 6 months screen replacement warranty, btw.
Wireless Charging: Don't know for sure, but doubt it. I had the wireless Qi charger from my Nokia and it didn't work. I don't know if an aluminum chassis interferes with that or not. They give you a 1.5 A charger, which seems to power it up quick.

The M8 doesn't have Qi wireless hardware. You'd have to add an external adapter to make that work..

I've seen people solder those into their phones, too. No way in hell I'd do it but if you're comfortable with the process...

There are aftermarket replacement back covers that have them built in for some phones.

Unfortunately, the M8 does not have a removable back cover.

Thanks guys.
I would hate to have to cover up that case, and not being able to wirelessly charge has become just short of a deal-breaker for me.

I would contend battery life is good enough that that should not matter here. If you can make it to bed time, then wireless charging shouldn't matter.

I don't get wireless charging. You have to have a special pad to put your phone on, and some phones need a special doodad to do it.

How hard is it to put the phone in a dock or plug the thing in?

Harder than putting it on the charging pad. And I say that as somebody who drops his phone on the wireless charger on my nightstand every night, and then fumbles to plug in his tablet in the dark once I'm done reading.

And the dock relies on limiting your phone selection to a handful of brands' flagship phones. The vast majority of Android phones don't get bespoke charging stations, docks, or car mounts.

I didn't get it either until I had a phone with it built-in that came with two chargers.

Now that I don't have it, I am legitimately angry that I need to plug my phone in all the time.

How is it easier? It's self explanatory. You just put your phone down.

Pfft. Who buys those? Flagship or go home. ;)

Besides, its highly unlikely that non flagship phones have wireless anyway. Let the plebians plug their **** in.

Nexus 4/5/7, HTC 8x, Droid DNA, LG G2, Lucid 2/3, Spectrum 2, Droid Maxx, Droid Mini, Lumia Icon/920/928/929/930/1020/1520, Fujisu and Panasonic handsets came out in 2014 with Qi wireless direct charge.

I think, strictly speaking, it's actually less likely for flagship phones to have.

I had wireless charging and used it every day, too. I still don't get the need for it. It saved me all of five seconds at home. I was never chewing through enough battery at work for me to have to need to charge it there anyway.

Meh, if you don't get it, then you don't get it. I don't get why don't like sushi, or why they DO like tofu etc.
There is no NEED for it, but I can't recall the last time I was in danger of running out of battery (well, yes I can, it was before I charged wirelessly). I've got one pad in the bedroom and one in the office; my wife and I have phones with two different charging plugs, but they both charge wirelessly on the same pads i.e. half the cords tangling up everywhere, or taking up plugs or getting lost, or...
