So after the events of JP 1 and 2, they went ahead and made Isla Nublar into a Theme Park? And people actually go there?

And then they made a sort of Raptor/T-Rex hubrid? (I'm leaving that typo because it works.) I knew the scientists were driven, and a bit unethical... but that's just stupidity.

Or is this a reboot?

The trailer is brilliant...not that Mus's comments aren't valid, either. But the trailer succeeds due to one scene.

JP1-3 clearly made velociraptors out to be the baddest scariest nasties on Isla Nublar. And Star Lord is fleeing on a motorcycle, with raptors apparently in hot pursuit...then the raptors catch up to him, and run past him, fleeing the same thing he's fleeing.

It's awesome.

They made a new dinosaur because toy companies didn't want to make copycats.

heh. Leaked shot of the Genetic Dino thing.
Spoiler:

"The new dinosaur is supposed to be a fusion of t-rex, velociraptor, snake, and cuttlefish so can instantly camouflage itself with any environment and called the D-rex for diablolus rex."

Yeah, *that* was a good idea.

Burt Macklin: Dinosaur Hunter!

Personally, I really liked the Jaws and Alien throwbacks.

As someone on Twitter suggested, it would be awesome were Chris Pratt's character the little kid that Alan Grant scared the piss out of at the beginning of the first film, all grown up. :D

So after watching the Super bowl spot, I have to wonder. Did Star Lord train a bunch of Raptors to do his bidding? Rocket isn't going to be happy about this.

This looks ridiculous in the absolute best of ways.

(For those keeping score at home, "the best of ways", as they relate to ridiculosity, involve training velociraptors like puppies and an invented dinosaur "killing for sport". Just FYI.)

Was it really awesome or was it as stupid as the trailers make it look, but an awesome spectacle?

Apparently the movie had some high heels in it, and feminists are offended.

It was honestly pretty stupid when that girl lured out a T-rex and ran away from it wearing heels. I seem to recall that same T-rex running down a Jeep before. Must have arthritis now.

It's possible if it wasn't a straight shot, the dino didn't have room to get up to speed. Also it seemed like it was fairly close to where they were, plus the dino is 20 years old now. There was enough plausibility for me.

I took my nephew last night and he enjoyed the heck out of it. Nothing else really matters, and yeah it's a movie that works very well at that level. It certainly worked far better at that level than any other sequel. Some people are complaining about the pacing, but I liked the lead in of seeing Dr. Hammond's dream came true with the bittersweet knowledge of knowing that they're going to somehow **** it up again. If there's anything unforgivably wrong with the movie, (for me at least) it's the vast amount of human stupidity and repeating all the same mistakes that go into that happening. I know you can't have the movie without that happening (I guess...), but still. Basically what I'm saying is if you're going to cry about suspension of disbelief the drama parts far out weigh the sci-fi (which is all Sufficiently Advanced Technology handwavium anyway) and the action parts (totally forgivable for the sake of good action scenes.

Here's a question for everyone who saw it. Where will they go with the sequel?

Spoiler:
the geneticist escaped with whatever black market embryos inGen was working on. Ultimately the Islands are the only proper growing ground for such creatures. Beyond that, given the fractious (nod to Dr. Malcom intended) nature of the series, who the heck knows. If Chris Pratt isn't too busy being Star Lord and Indiana Jones, I'm sure the big wigs at universal would like to have him back as the protagonist, putting a stop to whatever sinister plans InGen (or whoever ends up with the embryos) is hatching (pun intended). However if they can't get him they've already proven they won't let a little thing like that stop them in The Search for More Money .
