Seems better than the Chromecast and is only $20 for prime members for the next two days.

$39 normal price with remote

For all the fancy stuff the Chromecast and Firestick do, they both utterly fail at what I want them to do.

Microsoft's streaming stick, while pricier, is a much better option for me.

Yes, well, this is only notable because of the price in the first place

Eh, I pre-ordered one. For $20, may as well.

It's not nearly as useful to me as it would be if it had Vudu (which is my secondary VOD source, and I've utilized the hell out of their DVD/BD "conversion" program). But with Netflix and Hulu...eh. Will be good if I ever get a TV set up in the guest room.

@Lenas:
And to give Apple props, Microsoft's streaming stick is basically "Airplay for Windows".

I just want to be able to put Netflix in the bedroom so my wife doesn't have to take over the living room TV for dumb **** like Reign. With Netflix and PLEX support I doubt she'll ever get out of bed again.

Ah, if you didn't already have a way to play netflix in the bedroom, $20 is a good deal.

I have an overabundance of Netflix-capable devices.

Devices in my house that play Netflix:
Computers (three of them)
PS3
Wii-U
2 TVs
3 tablets
3 phones

Also, consider subscribing to www.unblock-us.com to increase your available netflix streaming library. (you can test it for free for a week.) In the US, you've already got the single largest netflix library available, but I'm constantly switching to other countries' netflix services to watch things not on the US netflix. (Hell, sometimes I even switch back to Canada.)

I ordered one as well, for 19 bucks can't beat it. Also, they're backordered already, mine is set to ship dec 10th, so I'm sure there will be a lot of reviews before ship (order easily cancelled if the reviews merit it.) I wish it had google play and hbo go, but for 19 bucks, still worth a shot.

Dec. 12 for me (but I picked the slow shipping to get a $1 ebook credit).

And from the department of redundancy department, Google has the new Nexus (Android TV) Player as well..

Looks cool, but 99 bucks makes it quite a bit less impulse buy worthy. Also looks like less of the major streaming services. I hear the chrome cast 2 is in the pipeline too.

To be fair, the Nexus player has considerably more functionality than the stick devices, in that it has the entire Android Market, not just a handful of dedicated apps (like chromecast).

I'm not trying to suggest is worth what they are asking either. I have the legacy Google TV blue ray player, and I might have used it 3 times in its life before I disconnected it permanently.

I suppose someone might find some good fun in there. ...

Ah, didn't realize it had full android. Not something I'd ever use, but I'm sure some hacky-types will find some fun there.

I love my chromecast, but the fact it won't do Amazon and won't sync well with the fiance's Applecrap make it less than useful for us.

I've been thinking about a chromecast for a while, but what really pushed me over the edge on this one (besides the promo price) was that it had a standalone remote. I wasn't sure what the wife acceptance factor would be if she had to go get her cell phone every time she wanted to watch something.

This cNet article has a pretty good breakdown of the three 'sticks' (Chromecast, Fire Stick, Roku Stick).
http://www.cnet.com/news/fire-tv-stick- ... he-sticks/

I ordered a Fire Stick because of the price, but the lack of Slingplayer support is likely a deal breaker for me.

I pay for half of my sisters cable bill and have a slingbox set up at her place for the rare times when I want to watch something on Comcast Cable. Using the chromecast is a lot easier than running HDMI to a laptop (I don't always have one connected).

Edit: Looking closer at that app compatibility matrix, it seems the one device I don't own is the one that suits my needs the best (Roku).

For those who use Google Play, Roku now has Google Play. So, uh, not a lot of point to the Nexus stuff.

Don't worry man, now you can get a Vudu Spark that wont be compatible at all with third party apps and can only deliver its own content.

Got mine on Friday. Aside from requiring a wall outlet and watching two unskippable videos (on tv and app), it works pretty great. Voice search from the app hasn't missed a single letter yet, Plex and Netflix working as expected. Very fast on the streaming, this little thing.

I've used mine for a week, love it. Fast, instant-on from sleep, Netflix/Hulu Plus/Amazon prime all work great. Definitely glad it has dual-band wireless, much quicker than the single-band in my PS3.

Well, since hackers decided to take down XBL on Christmas, I had to resort to this Fire Stick. It works great, but the patching process was lengthy.

I got mine a few days ago, and Iove it so far. The Amazon video interface alone is worth the price of admission.

One minor nit. It's more a complaint for the Slingbox people. The Slingplayer app is different from the one I paid for on google play. The Amazon version is free, but it doesn't support my hardware (Sling HD).
