Has anyone had like an existential crisis/mid-life crisis in their 30s? Just wondering. I didn't graduate college until I was 27 so I got a late start. Plus, all of my parents and grandparents died before I was 30 so I'm at the top of the food chain so to speak and no buffer in my family between me and death. (I had no idea how much it would suck not to have that!) I just feel like I've skipped my 30s. Like I went straight from my 20s into my 70s. Seriously. :psyduck:

Well, you married into a family that gives you a good buffer. You've got me as an adopted uncle willing to talk with you anytime you need a grey fuzzy shoulder to collapse into, you have options Kate. Most of us know that family isn't always just bloodlines, its the people you love, cherish and feel close to even when they aren't kin.

Yes, what you are feeling is a thing, you were orphaned by real life, it is called survivors guilt. Some people have committed suicide because they survived and others didn't. It doesn't have to be a disaster or a tragic incident. It just has to mean a lot to you and be more than you can handle. Trauma is like that.

Your faith gives you a lot to fall back on, and if you can't find it internally, you have people you can go talk to about it. Do that, and make sure you're around to see your own kids thrive as adults and make you proud.

Oh sweetie, you are still young! rofl

I was already in college when you were born =)

That "30" feeling will pass soon enough. It hit me for a few days when I turned that age.

I wonder what you feel like you've wasted in the first 30 years of your life, that you think wont be possible in the next 70 years of your life?

Even if you had skipped straight to 70, you'd still probably have enough time to relive your entire life up to this point. That's a lot of life.

I think it comes around at every "0" age past 20. I remember being like "holy **** I'm 30" and this year I'm starting to get that "damn it, 40 is here already" thing going on even though my birthday isn't till August.

I think maybe it's at those times that the opportunity cost of life hits us. We look back on all the things we could have done, and forget what we have that we wouldn't if we'd done something else instead.

30 was hard for me. Like, holy **** I am going to die right now hard. Now I am ok and I don't think about it. I have accepted I will be dead soon, I just try to have a good time until then.

All the Big Mistakes of my life have pretty much shaken themselves out by now. These days it's hard to regret any of them. All of those Big Mistakes came with friends and memories that I really don't want to trade in just to be a few years ahead in my career.

Moreover, I didn't know I wanted to do this fifteen years ago. If I did everything "right" the first time, I still wouldn't have had the good sense to listen to my father. I'd be stuck in a career I never wanted, and would be looking at spending the next ten years trying to get where I'm at now.

LK age is a state of mind. In my case, my 61st birthday is next week but I don't feel any older than 27. I've never felt bad for any of my birthdays, because I am not letting myself fall into the trap of worrying about death. We all die sometime...my motto is live life to the fullest, you only get one time around. :)

Barring something random like an aneurysm, I seem to be looking down the sights at a centennial, so no, no mid-life crisis for me for another decade, at least.

For me at least, 10-20 was "who am I" and "weeeeee!"
20-30 was surviving long enough to be on my own (college, debt, making a name for myself in career)
30-40 was (is) truly my time. I've made it. I'm independent. I'm in control. Plan the future the way I want it.
At 38, it seems 40-60 will be "execute the plan".

Late 20s / early 30s was the free-est time of my life. I could do anything.
