I only know Ben Affleck's Daredevil, so I admittedly have no idea what the real Daredevil is supposed to be like, but... did that seem good? Should I be excited?

That was very good. You should be all kinds of excited.

Ben Affleck's Daredevil gets a lot of flack it shouldn't, but even I, as a most-of-the-time defender of that work, will happily concede that it is a pretty shallow representation of Daredevil as a franchise and character.

Daredevil is all kinds of complicated, and involves a lot of inner conflict and frankly uncomfortable moral dilemmas. The Affleck Daredevil barely even alludes to Matt's deep-rooted Catholic guilt. He's a lawyer by day and a vigilante by night, and the hypocrisy of that position doesn't escape him. On the moral code and killing front, probably the only character out there with a thinner black, uncrossable line between beating people senseless, torturing them, systematically inflicting sheer terror upon them, but not killing them, is Batman.

It's been a dark, broody franchise ever since Miller had his run in the late 70's/early 80's, without ever quite just tipping the scale and going full-Punisher.
