I am beginning to test migrating the board to a new version of phpBB (3.0.x to 3.1.x), and among the things that don't port over are the styles. Historically we've had 12 styles, but when I looked, 4 of them had 0 people using them. I went ahead and disabled those.

The remaining styles are (with number of users):
  1. prosilver (2)
  2. subsilver2 (230)
  3. AeroBlueX (19)
  4. AeroBlue (9)
  5. polyethylene (5)
  6. Glade (33)
  7. Gmail Dark (5)
  8. Gmail Dark Modified (2)

I suspect the great majority of people using subsilver2 are just using the default.

The only style that comes with phpBB 3.1 is prosilver. I installed subsilver2 on my test forum as well. The question is, do you care about the other styles? I may be able to find a port of AeroBlue, polyethylene, and Gmail Dark, but the Glade style was something I made myself. Is it something you guys care about? If you do want a style ported or a new one installed in the 3.1 branch, let me know here.

I only care about the AeroBlueX theme. subsilver's too bright, and I hate themes that artificially constrain the width.

Edit: Also, avatars go on the left, dammit!

I really like my GMail Dark Theme, but I understand if it needs to go the way of the dodo.

I use GMail Dark Modified, but prefer the new prosilver because of responsive mobile support. Tapatalk is crap.

I use AeroBlueX, mainly because the other options were visually worse in some fashion. Either too stark, too dark, or just bad color choices.

I use subsilver2. But I don't really care.

Moo, I just appreciate the fact that you've maintained this odd little fish tank for so long. I'm touched that you would involve the community in a choice like this, rather than just (very reasonably) justifying the end results after the fact.

Please do whatever makes the work you do the easiest and most manageable, and thanks for everything.

Agree. I use GMail Dark because I have eye issues, and the light burnses the eyes, precious.

I happen to switch themes often, I just happen to be on the default right now.

I like the AeroblueX and Gmail Dark. I used to like that grey, granite-looking one on... Glade 2.0? I miss that one, even though it narrowed the screen. If it were full width it'd be fantastic.

I'm not terribly attached to any themes, but like Mr. Sky, I prefer those that don't force a width.

The lighter colored themes are more work friendly, so I tend to go with those....

I echo all of this.

I like the glade theme out of habit. However, I've never Deved a phpbb theme, but I can't imagine it being more difficult than say Word-Press. So if you need someone to update/fix/redo the glade theme in order to have it kept, I'd be happy to look at it in my spare time. If I find its not so bad, I could look at other ones as well.

Like Farsky and Shuyung, I've found that pretty much everything except AeroBlueX is shite for one reason or another. Unfortunately that style lacks a reply all function for PMs.

Way back when, I downloaded a vBulletin theme for phpBB 3.0, changed its color scheme, and made a few small tweaks to make the Glade theme. I don't see a vBulletin theme for 3.1, and I haven't looked at what it takes to create/import/modify a 3.1 theme. You are welcome to look into it if you wish.

It's a lot more difficult. Tables running rampant along with overzealous CSS specificity and !important rules, you'll become frustrated quickly.

On that note I also offer my help. Hopefully the new prosilver responsive theme is made efficiently.

Edit, just looked... it's much better.

I'm going to echo Rynar's sentiment and give a big thanks for keeping the gears turning, Mookhow. If the theme I use (AeroBlueX) gets lost in translation, so be it.

I've been using the Glade theme all along. I like it. Do what you need to do Mookhow,
