OK. I have an interview tomorrow (civil-service, list-type thing), and need to print a copy of my MCSE certification. OK, that's cool, even though I haven't really thought much about that in years.

So, I'm looking at the MS certification page, and notice that you can have the page translated into various languages. Gee, I think, I wonder how this looks in Russian, since I speak Russian. I click on the drop-down, and take a look at the long list of languages. Boy, there's one I'm not familiar with - Queretaro Otomi (which turns out to be a native language in Mexico).

Looking a little farther up the list, I notice, of all things, Klingon. Yes, the MS Translator program speaks Klingon:

Code:
Portable Document Format ((pdf)) xml nav Specification ((xps)) pagh copies certificates Microsoft download.
targhHom veDDaq noch laHlIj let-copies certificates Microsoft ra'.
DubelmoHchugh note: upto 7 malja' jaj qaSpu'DI' chu' certification, vImoj lupoQ download pagh je' certificate chav laH ghaH 'oH.

(Unfortunately, the only Klingon I remember is "Qapla'" (Goodbye).)

What a strange world.

Except that "Qapla' !" translates as "Success!" not "goodbye" (it first appeared in Star Trek III, uttered by the female Klingon spy right before Kruge destroys her and her ship, Valtris maybe?)

Really? Maybe that's like nuqneH, which is used as a greeting, but really means "What do you want?"?

Yeah, i think so; Omniglot.com says it's used as a "Parting phrase(s)/:
Good luck/
Bon voyage /
Have a good journey"

Oddly, I wasn't asked any of this at my interview (much less for the certificate itself).

Klingon is good for testing language translation programs because it's much closer to a 1:1 word swap. It's not like going from English to Spanish where you have significantly different grammatical structure in addition to the word replacement.
