The Glade 4.0

I tried searching for it and couldn't find it. I don't remember the overall arc of the story, just that two people would join their minds together and fight together. If I remember correctly they used some kind of laser whip. The individual people couldn't remember anything about joining together afterwards, but during they realized they didn't have any control and it was like a third mind was there controlling everything. Other things I remember, one of the pairs the secondary person was a girl who I think was a paraplegic who turned out not to be a real person.

I think it was actually a serious of two or three books. It was set in a semi futuristic time.
