He really was a pretty amazing prodigy developer. He ported the Pokemon Red/Blue battle code that he had never seen before to the N64 in a week for Pokemon Stadium. When Gold/Silver were being developed, they were too big, so Iwata was asked to help compress the code. He ended up compressing it so much that not only could they finish the game, but they were able to add the entire Kanto region. Earthbound literally never would have happened if he hadn't swooped in to save it. The guy was amazing.

He was also a CEO willing to halve his own salary when the Wii U was not doing well. It is a bit sad that the last public statement he made was an apology for E3 not impressing everyone. Thankfully that wont be what he is remembered for.

The first time, I missed that they're all trying to shove health/extra life powerups at him. I didn't need to be punched in the feels like that.
