Legion.

New class: Demon Hunter. Tank and DPS specs. Leather wearer. Only playable as Night Elves or Blood Elves.

New artifact weapons: You get to wield normal and upgraded versions of weapons like Doomhammer, Ashbringer, etc.

More class-specific stuff and quests and less followers (fewer to manage but more important). Shaman's main base is a cave overlooking the maelstrom. Warlocks hangout in the abyss. Paladins get a temple. Etc.

Seemed like a really rushed announcement after they just lost over 4 million subs. Overall kind of lackluster, seems a rehash of burning crusade.

It's easy to throw around the word "rehash." Here's some points another person brought up as to why it isn't.

Quote:
Firstly, Illidan's storyline was NEVER closed. Most people realized all along that he was not actually permanently dealt with. Blizzard has explicitly expressed wishes to give him some kind of redemption arc, or at least to continue his obviously unfinished story. He was more of a demon than anything when we killed him, and demons don't just decompose when they die. We all know this. It boggles my mind that such a large group of people didn't realize that Illidan has always been a loose end. I thought that was commonly understood.

Those of you calling this expansion fan service might as well direct that criticism at Vanilla WoW, even though the entire point of WoW was to expand the existing lore into a world we could explore. Remember The Broken Isles in the RTS? We're actually going to explore them in the WORLD, just like we got to do with Lordaeron, Teldrassil, Northrend, Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor, etc.

We're going to face off with Azshara (or she's at least making an appearence)!

Tauren are being expanded as a race!! I know they got some attention in Cataclysm with the Paladin stuff, but we're going to meet Highmountain Tauren!

New Elf stuff! Night Elves (specifically their ancestors) have perhaps the richest background of all the races and have been comparatively nonexistent in the lore of WoW. We're getting new elf story, art, and architecture!

Alleria and Turalyon are making direct appearances!

All 36 specs are getting content specifically designed for them in the form of kickass weapons (as to this, the only criticism I agree with is the trivialization of existing legendaries, but I'm more excited about finding out what kind of bows I'm going to be able to choose from, what kind of staffs, what kind of daggers!!)

Dalaran, a city that literally floats and has the capability of travel is making a 2016 appearance! It houses the Kirin Tor, a group of mages who consider themselves protectors of Azeroth. It boggles my mind that people are calling this a rehash. That's like calling Arthas's appearence in Wrath a rehash, rather than a progression of his story (I'm going to reiterate this point in a bit). When I saw Dalaran floating in the sky during the reveal announcement, I went nuts in skype! My voice got comically high pitched -- "IS THAT DALARAN?!?" But then I get to reddit and so many people are angry because Blizzard brought back a FIXTURE in the story. Guys...Dalaran is getting a contemporary facelift! I can't wait to see how beautiful it is with updated graphics.

The Honor system is getting a fresh rework! And spells and talents that are specifically for pvp!

We're getting a brand new class with a fascinating mechanic -- the ability to see through walls on a cooldown...AND THEY CAN DOUBLE JUMP!! ...playable female demon hunters!

One of the first raids is in the Emerald Dream (nightmare!). How is that a rehash! That's brand new story and lore progression of one of the most iconic fixtures of the Warcraft universe! The other raid is a BEAUTIFUL nightelf palace. Guys...we're doing a nightelf themed raid! How cool is that??

EVERY class is getting a hub similar (but probably not the same) to things like the peak of serenity. And they aren't even located on the new continent (at least the paladin one isn't)! Brand new CLASS SPECIFIC hangouts that are scattered across Azeroth!

PvP is finally getting a lore-important (I say lore-important because I don't know that these weapons will be legendary) weapon for EVERY class that is integral to PvP progression!

The expansion isn't even about Illidan. It's about Sargeras himself.
technically this isn't confirmed but based on the announcement it SEEMS Sargeras-centric.

Ever since they killed off 10m Heroics in favor of a unified 20m Mythic, I just can't stay as interested.

All the raiding guilds on my realm struggled, and ultimately folded. We went from a healthy 450 people raiding heroics last expansion (not counting the increase during SOO) and have 0 in current content, with only 1 20 man guild for early expac mythics.

I get the change, but it's what drove almost all of my friends away from the game, and I don't really want to pay the money to transfer to a mega-server when I like the community (sans raiding) where I am.

Dev interviews area also talking about axing Mythic 5 mans and Challenge Modes, so that takes away the other challenging small group content that was some solace after losing 10man raids.

It really seems like they're catering primarily to competitive raiders and LFR players atm, with very little focus to the "middle" of their subscriber base, which sucks.

How hard is it, really, to assemble 20 people for a raid?

We field fleets 10x that large in EVE and that's not even close to an all-hands call.

Also, what's with only 1 race per alliance being available for Demon Hunter?

There are no longer 20 people capable or interested in raiding mythic on my merged server, down from 450 heroic raiders last expansion.

And I don't want to transfer servers away from my non-raiding friends.

Not hard with the group finder.

Even easier with openraid.us if you really want to vet the people who join. I had very good experiences with openraid.us. You can easily form some good raiding communities with people who aren't even on your server.

Can't do Mythic cross realm though, which makes group finder and openraid pretty useless.

And I'm not sure how much is want to PuG mythic.

My question is, what happens to Northrend if they take Dalaran away?

Two versions of Dalaran, from what I hear.

So, does Legion save or kill WoW?

I'm not sure at this point. My vanilla guild has gone AWOL this expansion after the second raid, for the first time since the game has been out. I'm not sold they will come back entirely, and if they do, I am not sure they will stay. I'm playing WoW as a single player now. 10 lvl 100s and farming old content and gold. No hype for Legion for me. I feel once I have gotten my fill of old content, toys, pets, etc., I may be done after ~12 years.

This expansion really mangled the game in a lot of ways. But then again, I haven't felt much excitement since WotLK if I am truthful.

Eh, I enjoyed WoD. I enjoyed MoP.

But I was never really as "into" the game as some people. After EQ, I never really got into another MMO the same way- it was just something fun to play.

Accordingly, I've found WoD fun to play. I raided HM with a progression guild, took off time through BRF, and then came back and PuG'd my way through heroic HFC. Fights were fun.

I'm looking forward to Legion- especially the new transmog system- and it looks like the class-specific story lines will be really cool as well, since I have one of each class.

WoD has also given me the time to level up 17 level 100s, gear them for the start of the new expac, and farm up enough gold to last me for a while.

I stopped hardcore raiding when I began dating my now-wife (which was right around the time BWL came out). Raid finder is good enough for me. Though I have done the next step up a few times with openraid.us (before the newer in-game raid finder was implemented). I take an extremely casual approach to WoW, so this expansion excites me.

Granted, while I am casual, I am the most "hardcore" casual that I know of. I strive very hard to be as efficient as I possibly can be for the gear and class that I play. I have no less than a dozen custom-made weak-auras on any given character and even pay attention to things like the "swing timer" to maximize some of my abilities.

As people say, there's a difference between a "casual" and a "badual".

Casual doesn't mean you don't take pride in your playing and how to play your best, it usually just means you stick to shorter term activities or less scheduled activities.

Prepatch is out. All the class changes and animations are in the game.

Along with the new transmog collection. Finally, they are doing as D3 did years ago and anything you have soulbound will be unlocked *account wide* for transmog and you don't need to keep the physical item anymore. You can also apply enchantment effects to weapons from the transmog collection, as well as save specific sets; even have a specific set per class spec.

Really nice thing is that you can do transmog runs for other classes on your more powerful class (unless you need to collect tokens for turn-in). You can also use some class-specific stuff, like the blood elf paladin tabard. My rogue always wanted that one since it's black, red, and blood elven. Now he can use it. Though it does not work cross-faction.

Class changes are universally liked by the masses. I like that all the classes, and the specs, play even more uniquely.

The animations all "feel" much better as well, along with the newer attack sound effects.

You haven' played assassin rogue since the patch I'm guessing. I'm playing feral, but on a rogue. 3-4 bleeds to maintain, poisons don't do crap for damage, none of my old tricks etc. It's horrible and I don't like it at all

Other than that, the other classes I've played with (Brew monk, surv hunter, fire mage, and arms warrior) arent bad. Arms is fun, surv is... weird but not bad, harpoon being fun. Brew is just... odd. I'm not sure what they were going for there

The main problem imo (other than ability pruning again (ugh) is they put WAAAAY too much of our damage on bleeds. Rupture is like 50-60% of ALL our damage, assassin only. Our mastery, which buffs poison damage, is basically crap as poisons do like 8% of our damage. What they should do is make two different build paths using talents - heavy poison focus or heavy bleed focus.

I haven't tried the other specs

I played assassin a bit. I haven't played it for more than an hour or so, since I didn't want to take the extra hour to set up weakauras properly for the new changes just yet.

Assassin has been through many changes over the years. I've played assassin since the tail end of vanilla. I think it was most fun in WOTLK/Cata days. It got dumbed down a bit since then. Built-in slice and dice, less critical decision-making with combo points with the new buffering of 5 extra points, no need to be behind target for mutilate, etc.

While the new changes aren't poison-centric and I haven't spent a ton of time with it yet, I'm more happy to see that the spec is going a little more back to its roots with more things to maintain. It was getting a little boring and stale. I always liked the fast and frenetic playstyle that assassination had. Multiple bleeds along with forcing them to bleed out 400% faster introduces that back in for me.

But I also completely customize weakauras to show me what is off of cooldown, how long till off of cooldown, what debuffs are on the target, how long envenomate(?) has before I need to refresh it (since refreshing early is a waste) to easier keep track of everything. If I didn't, then yeah I probably wouldn't like it as much.

The problem is, I loved Panda/WoD assassin BECAUSE it was a simple spec. Maintain rupture, envenom 5 CP, hit Dispatch procs, then dispatch below 35%.... It was nice and I could worry about OTHER mechanics of fights....

Of course, I also really hate the tanking changes made in Cata. I liked 3 button Pally tanking

To be most efficient in damage you'd also have to ensure you didn't clip your envenom 6 second proc too soon, or you'd be wasting energy and damage. But, otherwise, yes it was far simpler.

You might want to give arms warrior a try. They are fun, but far more smooth and simple in their rotation. Colossus Smash, Mortal Strike, use fillers until it resets Colossus Smash, and repeat until execute phase, throwing in your War Cry buff now and again throughout the entire fight.

I'm loving really all the new changes.

I've got every class at 100, and going through each and getting them artifact and up to 101.

Lots of changes, but I really like a lot of the returns to class & spec differentiation.

My PC, however, might need work. I told myself I'd hold off working on it until after I got a job and moved across the US, but now that time is cropping back up.

Yeah I am having a blast as well!

I will say that I, and thousands of others, are a bit mad that Blizzard didn't make Ravenholdt the Rogue's order hall. It was their original hub for the (now removed) class quests. Such a missed opportunity by Blizzard.

I was really annoyed as well, until I thought about it more - did you ever do the rogue legendary daggers quest? Ravenholdt BURNED TO THE GROUND XD

Kinda hard to have an order hall in a smoking crater XD
