The Glade 4.0

Today I adopted a puppy as a companion to our older dog. As I was walking to the kennel with one of the employees I jokingly asked him if he thought my husband would divorce me when I brought the puppy home. We both laughed.

Well guess what? After 33 years together he wants to divorce me over a dog because I didn't consult with him first!!

He retired four years ago. The last three years all he has done is sit around drinking and sleeping. He can't walk, he doesn't do anything around the house, and he tells me to do what I want when it comes to major decisions because I have to take care of everything anyway...except for today!

I could have divorced him over twenty years ago because there were no marital relations on his part in all those years...but I stayed with him through the good and the bad...and he wants to divorce me over a puppy??

WTF???

Damn! That's frickin' awful. I hope that however this works itself out, it is to the best for you.

It sounds like there's something else going on in there. You might want to consider that this is a man who wants to lay down and die, but doesn't want you to watch him do it. This simply provides a convenient excuse for him to get you away.

In all of your years posting I've never seen you mention one redeeming quality of your husband's. This sucks, but mostly just because of your time investment.

I forgot about the phone call he made to our son that night, when he told our son I was contemplating suicide. Allen called me in a panic. I had to reassure him that I wouldn't do something stupid like that. I have too much to live for and too much life left to live.

I'm just numb right now. I never in my life imagined that this would ever happen. He is already looking into assisted living places. This is really happening. I'm going to need time to figure out what to do now.

Lenas his redeeming qualities are in all the years we've been together he has never lifted a finger to me or our sons and he worked 30+ years to provide for his family and to provide for our retirement.

That should be a basic quality of any man and not a redeeming quality.

True DS, but considering his alcoholism and the fact he has punched walls and broke his hand on the refrigerator once, I am happy to say he never hit me or our sons in a fit of rage.


Raell Once everything is said and done, my truck is in excellent shape for a beat-up '91 F-150, I have my dogs and camping gear. I might just do what he and I had planned to do together for our retirement...travel around the country.

So he called a lawyer who told him he is better off reconciling. We talked and the divorce is on hold...for now.

Keep that shovel handy Raell, I may want to borrow it down the road.

Puppy is fine. She has a cough, but the vet gave her some antibiotics, and she is sounding better already.

Update:

I told him to get out tonight. He has done nothing to even try to reconcile. He is the same ******* he has been since he retired. I can't handle his negativity any more.

I don't know how I will tell my dad about this. He loves my hubby and always thought highly of him.
