Local news story. "violent felon" brandishes a gun in several local businesses, carjacks three different vehicles, fires at the responding officers prompting a SWAT response. Chase ends violently.

I had read about this story yesterday after hearing some of the sirens (I was a neighborhood or two away meeting a friend), and hadn't given it too much thought. "Dumbass got what he deserved" or something along those lines. Miraculously, no one else was injured, although there was a lot of collateral property damage.

Today they released the dashcam video, and honestly, it was kind of jarring. Surreal even (we don't get a lot of this kind of stuff here). I can't imagine what was going through the mind of the girl that jumped out of that [gray|green] SUV right before the shooting started.

I tried to imagine what I would do in a situation like that (if I were a cop). It's hard to imagine controlling your emotions under the influence of that much adrenaline.

Of course the local anti cop folks are up in arms saying they didn't have to kill him, and they used too much force. I have no sympathy for the guy at all... i still think justice was served in that regard. The justification to use that much force is to protect themselves and others, but wow, it seems like there was so much potential for bystanders to get caught up in that... scary...

The dashcam video shows the chase from two perspectives, and the violent end.

Here is the story on a local news site

I'm sorry. The moment you put out a gun and start shooting at the police, you are asking for it.

This.

Once you are attempting to kill another human being, there's no such thing as excessive force - whatever stops you is fine.

First cop on that video sucks. Obviously, he decided the guy was highly dangerous and he was trying to wreck the car. Ever seen a demo derby? A vehicle can take a lot more damage on the rear end than in the front.

You see a lot of cops harass the tail end of a car with nudges and pushes to the side and such in the effort to cause a stop or an impact, but it's not a good idea to just ram the back end.

This. Again and again.

We will put you down so you do not hurt anyone else.

Oh... wait...

Was he black or white? If he was black #blacklivesmatter
he was just misunderstood, he was a high school honor student who wouldn't hurt anyone. It was blatant Police Brutality and abuse of the badge.

I don't necessarily see that. It looks like he lost his brakes and rearended the dude. Wouldn't surprise me if they faded pretty bad from the chase.

That being said, **** that guy. He got what he deserved.

Maybe. First time I saw it it looked like he accelerated into him. Watched it again and maybe not.

Props though. I'm guessing he was hit in the face with an airbag, pulled himself together, figured out his car was toast, and was on the run in 5 seconds.

That wasn't his car. It was the third car he took at gunpoint.

Wait, did someone say he was asking for it? That's just rape apologetics. You're blaming the victim. Your Patriarchy offends feminists.

The cop, not the perp. ;)

What you're referring to is a PIT maneuver and while you're right that it involves pushing the side rather than the rear, it's also difficult. Hitting the rear indicates the maneuver is hard, not that the cop (necessarily) sucks.

Yup, no sympathy from me.
