Yay! The Military is awesome! Every dollar we spend is totally worth it!

To the military.

People struggling to have medical insurance, food or other necessities would totally agree that we need to spend over a trillion dollars on a jet that “Can't Turn, Can't Climb, Can't Run”.

The amount of profligate waste in procurement, maintenance and other contracts needs to be stopped.

The amount of profligate* waste in american social programs related to medical insurance, food and other necessities is just as bad as the amount in military procurement. Perhaps worse, as at least the military functions. Even before Obamacare, the USA spent 300% more per capita on public health care spending than Canada, and we have excellent universal health care. And Obama thinks throwing more money at it will help? America was already spending at least 300% more on public health care spending than it needed to, and was getting shitty results from it.

(I do believe the USA would probably benefit by cutting back on military power projection capabilities a fair bit, but only because I believe that American allies, Canada included, should increase theirs.)

* - this is an awesome word. Added to brain dictionary. Thank you.

dude, you just dismissed everyone you disagree with as an *******, positioned everything you agree with as "common sense" - which it isn't - and

I just explained how that money goes back into the community, supports technological advancement, skilled labor, and I've stated repeatedly over the years that there are, indeed, plenty of places where money is being wasted or misued.

That does not change the fact that defense spending is one of the few areas of government spending where we actually get what we pay for, unlike throwing it an undeserving dipshits, or outright swine.

So this is really just about the F-35? The issue there is much more complex than sound bites, and even if the F-35 is a bad program we still need a new fighter. The old ones are my age or older.

And how much is that?

A lot of that waste is caused by political interference and over regulation of military activity. The bureaucratic structure governing the US Military is horrendous. If you want to cut profligate waste, you need to cut Congress. Affirmative action quotas, environmental requirements, and other such nonsense that depletes competitiveness leads to a skewed market. The economics of the US Military are not as cut and dry as you think. The Democrats are wrong or outright lying in most cases.

Barney Frank is a prime example. "I oppose the F-35 but I want the engines built in my district". A plane which has 2 different engine suppliers for pork barrel reasons and which is supposed to come in both VTOL and non VTOL versions because jarheads - and because the British want a carrier that doesn't use CATOBAR despite its size.

And yet somehow we're to believe the problems are Lockheed's fault.
