This morning I completed my "final out" appointment for the Air Force and entered terminal leave after serving 20 years. Time to figure out what I want to be when I grow up, I guess ;)

Wow, very nice. Congratulations!

I'm about 15 years into mine, and have never regretted my time in the service one bit.

I start my new job mid-march (double dip til may). Any longer and I'd forget how to work :)

There were more good time than bad (especially before Fort Meade) but my first Chief told me that I'd know when it was time to end my career because I wouldn't be having fun every day. That was about 3 years ago and I'm pretty psyched to own my own life again.

Hopefully when your time comes you'll actually have grown up clothes;). When I took all the uniform items out there was only about 7 things left in my closet.

I'm a reservist so I don't have that problem, but I don't get to actually collect my retirement until I'm 59 and a half. Losing that monthly extra check and that AT pay every year for 13 years is going to suck. If I make it to O6 I can stay 2 extra years but I'm not sure I'd want to.

Congrats.
I'd have hit my 20-yr mark in 2007 but sadly, the Army and I got off to a bad start and never recovered. Signing an 8-yr contract and then getting locked into the wrong MOS kinda set the wrong tone :(

I totally get that. If my first couple of years had been like the last 8 were I'd would have gotten put after the first enlistment myself.

That is funny. I was on the fence about if I should re-enlist. So I took a nice long leave, went home for two weeks to see what things were like. I went back to my unit ready to sign up again.

While I was gone on leave there was a leadership change in my platoon. The dick head that came in proceeded to make my life hell for the next month or so. It was like, the **** twilight zone. So I said **** it and never resigned.

Grats on your retirement man. You earned it.
