The Glade 4.0

SO GOOD. Go see it. The marketing wasn't great (hence my initial disinterest) but the film itself is fantastic.

Take a kid if you can, it blows their little minds. I haven't stopped hearing it quoted since we saw it. "YOU BOOTED MY STROLLER?"

Regardless, it was much better than I was expecting, and definitely a purchase once it hits disc.

Not just the marketing, but the title, and theme (yay for generic anthropomorphic animals!).

The stellar reviews it's getting have made me realize we have to get out and see it, but i could have given it a pass otherwise.

Yeah. Both The Good Dinosaur and Zootopia were egregiously bad in the their marketing. They seemed to be pushing a central idea of their films' settings as though it were the point or purpose of the film, when both have concepts that are A) easily understandable and B) have been seen before as the backdrop to other films (Sentient dinosaurs! Anthropomorphic animals!). It felt like they were trying to spell out something that we've taken for granted as background info for years.

interesting. I let this one go. My wife took the kids, but I never heard anything about it. I'll ask them.

Sadly, Disney won't understand this, because Zootopia is transcending its bad marketing with some incredible box office revenue that's if it continues is threatening to approach Frozen territory.

Personally, I'll take crap marketing and a great film over the alternative every time.

Would a 2 year old like it?

She will love it.

Not arguing the marketing... but The Good Dinosaur was.... not great. Backgrounds were absolutely stunning, but I didn't care for the character design, or the story (what little there was of it).

I felt the same way, the story is pretty simplistic (and single-layered) for a Pixar film. I feel like they really should've marketed it for what it was, a western.

However, we bought the blu-ray for the kids, and that thing has spun every weekend since we got it. So there's something there that resonates with the kids.

Yeah, The Good Dinosaur was just kinda OK (I actually agree on the character design/background divide). I mention it just 'cuz it's another Disney joint that did the same "Oooh, look at our setting's concept!" thing in the marketing.

The Good Dinosaur was a clusterfrack of production issues from start to finish.

It was in production since 2009, suffered a director change in mid movie, several delays and redesigns, pushing the budget up to well beyond what it was going to recoup at the box office. It should have simply been canned from the getgo. The movie would have worked better as one of Pixar's short films than a feature length one.

That explains a LOT. It seems really disjointed, and I feel like a lot of it doesn't really pay off. A bunch of changes throughout production explains it. Never really harmonizes as a film.

It was kinda jarring for me really. Here is all this absolutely perfect and gorgeous CGI in the backdrops, and environment... and these super cartoony characters that really don't fit the scene. I spent most of the movie watching the backgrounds, taking mental stills of the breathtaking scenery.

I know, right? So, so good.

So... Zootopia may have been a technically better movie, I think, but... Finding Dory just had more feels. Pixar's so good at that.

Pixar is the market MASTER of feels per min.



Toy Story 3 and Inside Out get me every time.

Finding Nemo (<- this scene every goddamned time) and Toy Story 3 (everything from the incinerator to the end credits).

You were definitely not wrong. She loves the "bunny and fox" movie.

Oh and can I also say I love the meta joke that they did with Alan Tudyk's character? In Frozen he did the voice of the Duke of Wesselton. In Zootopia he voices Duke Weaselton. And both of them get upset if you pronounce the name the other way around.

Saw this the other day - I was more interested in the WORLD rather than the story. I loved the fact that unlike some other universes with animals as the dominant species, they took the time to think 'ok, how would things be built for this place' The three doors on the train was the first sign of this, but many other times....

Also, the technology to have a tundra right next to a desert is AMAZINGLY complex...
