I was referring to an educational reimbursement benefit from your employer. You may not have one, but it's not unusual for one to be available.

Juniper Networks is another manufacturer of networking hardware, competing with Cisco Systems. They offer their own line of certifications and, at least in the circles I am familiar with, are basically interchangeable with the Cisco certs. Although, to be fair, in the circles that I navigate, it's only the -IE certs that bear any weight. CCIE or JNCIE. Having one of the lesser ones just means you changed employers recently.

Cisco certified internetwork engineer and presumably juniper's version of the same.

Yes. Those are the top level certifications, requiring the lower level certs as prerequisites, and generally involve somewhere around a $4k price tag, factoring in travel and hotel stay to do the lab part.

The CCIE had a reputation of flunking about 3/4ths of its takers as well. But from the one person I know who has it, most people walk out of the test and are offered a 150k+ job on the spot.

Granted that anecdote is 12 years old.

I believe that the CCIE is still holding steady at the mean attempts to pass being 4. It should be said, that it is the lab portion that is the expensive and difficult part. There is a written portion, but everybody pretty much passes that on their first try. Most people taking the lab do so on a company's dime.
