Anyone else watching this show? I was hooked about 15 minutes into the first episode. Lot of great 80s nostalgia, with a similar feel to a lot of the movies of that era (like ET). I can't really say enough good things about it. Also, it's pretty terrifying.

It was awesome. Really well written and acted. I give it 5 atari joysticks up.

See, I would have liked the end of it much more had they not done the set up for a second season. The show was great though. **** loved it.

Adored it. Perfect mix of Stephen King and Steven Spielberg. It succeeded wildly where other recent '80s pastiches have failed (Super 8, Midnight Special, etc.).

It certainly hit all the right notes to ingratiate it into the genre it was trying to represent. I feel you could show this to a stranger along side other 80s period sci-fi and they'd have no trouble believing it was made then

Throughly loved. Downed the first five episodes Saturday and the remainder last night.

Spoiler:
Eleven's quest for her mama and lost sister wasn't really my cup of tea, but it was fine; it's just that the rest of the show was so much more interesting.

This is the greatest show in the entire history of ever.

Uncontested.

Loved this.

My only complaint is that there isn't enough of it.

I'm about 5 episodes into the beyond stranger things episodes.

Pretty fun hearing the cast talk about their characters.

Feel like they ripped off elements of lots of 70s 80s films and mashed them together to get their series. I enjoyed it but it was very derivative.
Directly ripped off moments or scenes from: firestarter, exorcist, alien(s), goonies, gremlins, stand by me, footloose, weird science etc

I think they planned it that way. They actually talk about it in the Beyond interviews.

In fact they wrote Paul Reiser's part specifically for him in part because of his role in Aliens, and cast Sean Astin who was in The Goonies.

They also pull from Stephen King's work, and aren't shy about it at all.

I get the sense they are paying homage more than 'ripping off' 80s themes

I'm on episode 6 of season 1 and it seems to have hit a bit of a lull. Hoping it closes out better.

Derivative is fine, when its done properly. :)

Its like a big ol nostalgia-pipe filled with the good stuff and inhaled through the eyeballs.

So it sounded like Dart was making whimpering noises at the end rather than being straight up dead. Did I hallucinate that? If not, does that mean Dart wasn't under the control of the Mindflayer and just happened to show up and get a tummy ache and maybe be around for season 3?

Or are all demi-dogs de facto Mindflayer minions?
