My husband collapsed and was taken to the hospital on August 23. He was transferred to a skilled nursing facility on the 27th. I am in the process of preparing the house for his return....in a week...maybe a month...right now I don't know.

I am going to need a hospital bed for him if/when he gets home. Right now the prognosis is 3 months if he continues to drink, 2 or 3 years as long as he stays off of the booze. Unless he can get the vodka magically he won't be drinking!

Should I buy right off or should I rent for a month or two to see how he is doing?

I am so very frustrated and emotionally drained right now, it's hard to think sometimes.

TIA

Can't help much on the bed, but, sorry to hear about what you have to go through. Jasmy. Good luck, and be strong.

Is he on Medicare? Will the cost be a deciding factor if you rent or buy? Part B should cover 80% of the bed if you can get a physician to deem it medically necessary.

Been out of the DME business a couple years, but if you want to IM me, feel free.

I decided to buy a bed since he will need it for the rest of his life. :(

He should be coming home next Tuesday. HELP! I'm not ready yet! :P

Thanks to everyone for your input. :)

OMFG! Murphy's Law was in full effect today! First the wheelchair I bought for Bruce isn't working so we had to borrow one from the nursing facility...second the bed arrived but Allen had rehearsals and had to leave before we could put it together so Bruce is sleeping on the love seat tonight...third every time I started to put something together I had to stop to answer one phone call after another from health care personnel...fourth the best thing today is that Bruce is home and safe...the worst thing today is Bruce is home and I wasn't ready for him! I am exhausted and hurting but tomorrow is another day. Hopefully things will be better then! :D
