The sheer number of (rechargeable, presumably?) batteries involved boggles my mind. And the parts where they're showing one piece of the controller being used two-handed make me cringe. The Playstation controllers already feel tiny and fragile to me, I can't imagine trying to two-hand one of those.

That said, hats off to Nintendo for continuing to do their own thing, and it's exciting to see that Nintendo's noises about the rise of mobile gaming yielding this kind of a merge point between a console and a handheld instead of the focus on mobile apps while abandoning hardware that some people were expecting.

Personally, I loved the scene where the attractive girl took her console to the roof garden party so she could continue playing Mario. I'm totally sure that will happen... all the time.

Nintendo continues to avoid the "console arms race" and add functionality to their system others don't have. Good for them. Personally, I just can't wait to play that new zelda game on my Wii U. Eventually. Once again, their system will be contingent on whether they can convince any devs to support it. Since the gamecube generation, that support has been extremely lacking.

But people will buy it for Mario and Zelda (and likely, a new pokemon series).

And I'm with you Kaffis, dual handing those 1/2 of a controller is cringe inducing. Just turning the Wiimote on it's side was bad enough, now we get HALF a wiimote to turn on it's side? /Bad, nintendo!

So its a fat single screened DS that you can plug into your TV and play with controllers that you'll break, and/or lose.

Good play Nintendo. :)

Eww. Those close-ups look like the controller halves (I refuse to use your silly trademarked term, Nintendo) aren't symmetrical. That seems like an awkward decision.

It suggests they'll be sold in pairs, or under two SKUs, which makes it less efficient to replace broken/worn-out ones. It means that when you use them two-handed like they seem to think is a good way to share the device for split-screen play, the two players will have two different controller ergonomic feels, which is a really weird play.

I'm guessing their console ventures will go the way of Sega after this.

+ Dock/TV and mobile use
+ Appears to be a nice screen for the mobile device

- Those tiny half controllers (which makes the Pro controller(s) a mandatory add)
- Seems like a lot of 'parts' to have laying around

I *might* look harder at this if it turns out to be ~$99. Anything more than that and it's a waste for another re-packaging of little more than access to the same titles they've been putting lipstick on since the 80's.

They do, but it's a clone of Donald Trump.

It's almost like we're not the target market of video game companies anymore.

The industry is far more excited about this device than the Glade is.

So, the controllers, when undocked, don't appear to be much smaller than the original NES controllers. When the NES came out, when I was 10, I remember they felt fine. Coro didn't have a problem with them, either, when he got to play as Luigi.

They look about half the size, thinner, and laid out all wrong for a handheld controller.

Children are much less likely to develop musculoskeletal problem as a result of poor posture/ergonomics. I imagine design considerations for children don't extend much beyond answering the question of whether their digits can reach a button.

Yes. Which is awesome.

The Wii U has long been a much better, more interesting system than the PS4 or the Xbone. Sony and MS just still have something crucial: third-party support. That's the only reason to have either. Give a console the ability to play on TV with console-quality graphics, then seamlessly grab it and take it into another room, or on the road? That's friggin' awesome. Tablets have made great strides toward that, but the touch screen remains inelegant for game controls, and you can't play with them on TV without extraneous hardware.

So you have a kickass console, a badass handheld, apparently the return of third-party support, and Nintendo IPs? Sign me the **** up.

You are both overestimating the size of the new controllers and misremembering the size of the old ones.

The Switch controllers look like the size of my Amazon Fire Stick remote.

LOL, not a chance. Even my hacked Wii U with any title I want gets used less than my PS4. The console sucks.

Don't get your hopes too high. Bethesda and 2k wont even confirm if their titles in the reveal video are actually being made.

Supposedly Skyrim is confirmed, but Bethesda won't say if it's the remastered version (I'm betting it's not). You can almost certainly expect it won't support mods. Honestly, I think it's pretty telling they chose Skyrim and not Fallout 4.

But yeah, I can't imagine most big titles will end up making a dumbed down version of their product to run on this thing.

I'm real excited for what the Xbone and PS4 have coming out. Madden 2017 is really going to shake up the industry with its innovative gameplay, and the new Call of Duty game is going to completely change the way we look at first person shooters. Don't even get me started on how ground-breaking the PS4 controller has turned out to be. Sony's idea to take a Wiimote and turn it sideways to use as a regular controller was just brilliant. I don't know why nobody thought of it before.

That's all way more exciting than being able to unzip my Gameboy from my SNES and take my game on the road.

You ever break up with your boyfriend or girlfriend, and then some time later you found out they were happier with their new partner than they ever were with you? Then you get real mad because they don't miss you? Nintendo wrote us all off back in 2006. We ditched them for the PSX and the Saturn. Then we got excited about the Wii, only to find out that it wasn't for us! It was for everyone but us! How dare they! They made us so mad we said bad things about the Wii and the Wii-U, just to let everyone know how mad we were at Nintendo for making games for a different market. Now they're making another new console that's not for us! It's a **** outrage!
