If I were to take a guess.....he would really like it if we left Nato and let him take all those tasty countries he has his eyes on without our interfering. I could be wrong...

He might like the idea of us not shooting down his planes that are attacking ISIS.

Just a thought.

I've got a better idea. Let's reinstate the draft so that we've got enough manpower to staff military bases all along Russia's western border. What's one more war foreign intervention?

You've got this all wrong... Think of the trade deal you could make... exporting of Potatos in return for Vodka!

I don't mind more open trade with Russia and maybe working together to remove ISIS, since we're at least partially responsible for their current state.

But I don't really want to do it unless I know our leaders understand the real way to deal with ISIS. I don't like the idea of sending our boys to kill and die in a foolish police action.

I have mixed feelings about this. Russia is dealing with ISIL the right way- with extreme prejudice and overwhelming force. My concern isn't with their handling of ISIL. It's the propping up of an anti-Israeli and anti-western regime with Syria, as well as using the opportunity to bomb the **** out of the kurds, who (a) have been our best weapon against ISIL so far, and (b) deserve their own state carved from Syria, Iraq and Turkey. We need to stop pandering to Turkey on this just because they're a NATO ally.

This has the added benefit of reducing unemployment and stimulating the economy (stoke up the war machine!) :)

When Napoleon was presented just such a plan for the border with Germany, he asked his staff if they were trying to catch smugglers. That's a silly plan, politics notwithstanding. It doesn't work like Starcraft in real life.

Cordial relations with Russia are not a bad idea, nor is letting them have Syria - although we do need to make sure no aggressive ambitions toward Israel are tolerated, and Turkey does need a firm reminder of who they answer to (as in NATO in general, not just the U.S.) and as for NATO, they need to (in general) up their defense budgets, and not on salaries, and remember who's really in charge. That includes not whining about the man they expect to be willing to sacrifice Chicago and New York to protect Paris and Berlin. Euro-leftists need to remember who sets the condition that allow them to exist.
