CNN makes lies of omission. They all do, but there's no way it's better than not reading the news at all. Actually, not watching news might be better for the country at this rate...

They've all done a great job of stoking racial hatred and sending us back a few decades. Good work, assholes.

Saw Denzel Washington say something a little while ago. "If you don't watch the news, you're uninformed. If you watch the news, you're misinformed."

I recall reading something not too long ago about how jaded people were vis a vis the media in Russia, and how people are developing similar attitudes here.

Something along the lines of compromising material not always being legitimate, so people put the media at arm's length - they don't -really- believe it, they believe what they discuss with friends and co-workers, but national news has no real.. impact upon them.

I'm probably misremembering, but it seemed germane.

That second part is if you only watch the news. The news is great for finding issues to dig into deeper.

For example, I just finished a very lengthy scholarly discussion of the failings of psychological studies and experiments - actual, scientific experiements published by legitimate professors - into microaggression as a psychological hypothesis. Not any political problems, but the problems with microaggression as a psychological phenomenon. It took me well over an hour to read the whole thing, and I read fast.

That's what you should use news to find, not just a quick story. If you just TL; DR everything that takes more than 2 minutes to read, yes - you're misinformed or uninformed.
