You can have Logan wandering around rural Canada without adamantium for as long as you want. He doesn't start to make waves until you kidnap him, torturexperiment on him, and make him more dangerous than anything on Earth. And that can be present-day.

Magneto, I agree, you're going to have to **** with. I have to imagine they'll follow on from their choice with Quicksilver and Wanda, and make him the product of Hydra (Nazis, still!) experimentation.

I honestly... can't be arsed to give a **** about anything Fox makes relating to Marvel.

Even a decent movie is saddled with continuity to their 3/4s crappy X-Men films, and the knowledge that not only could they be so much better if they cooperated with Disney like Sony is doing, but they could make the MCU better as well.

On the other hand, Doctor Strange is getting very good early reviews.

Just finished Doctor Strange.

Well.

I. ****. Loved. That.

I thought it was good, but I had my nit picks.



Those nit picks aside, I liked it.

I loved this movie, without complaints. I also loved that they have managed to maintain the Whedonesque dialogue humor throughout the MCU no matter who is writing or directing.

My favorite bit of dialogue:

Kaecilius: Mister...
Steven: Doctor.
Kaecilius: Mister Doctor?
Steven: It's Strange.
Kaecilius: Maybe. But who am I to judge?

I adored it. It's my favorite Marvel movie, bar none. I had a gigantic grin on my face the whole time. I left the theater being unable to shake it from my mind. Still can't. May be going again to see it this weekend (in proper IMAX, not just my local LieMAX).

Saw Dr Strange (Real3D) yesterday. I liked it a lot. My only complaint is that I think it could have been longer! I'm usually not one to see stuff in 3D, but it was excellently done and added to the trippy nature of the film.

I actually think the way they went was probably the best way to play it (sidestepping the "wizened Asian man" stereotype in favor of Tilda Swinton [this had the added bonus of not preventing the movie from being shown in China, ever more important for revenues], and strengthening Wong past the "subservient butler" role). Win-win.

So what's the protocol, here? Now that we're getting Spider-Man in our Captain America: Civil War, and Iron Man in our Spider-Man: Homecoming, does Spider-Man get to invade this thread despite being a Sony affair?



I certainly wasn't expecting Sony to get this much Tony Stark in the deal. It looks like at least 2-3 separate scenes, likely at different parts of the movie. No complaints here, I suppose.

Still bitter we didn't get to stretch Emma Stone as Gwen into a third movie, though.

Looks good. Though he does have something of an Oliver Queen background going on.

Actually, the parallels go way deeper than just their heir-to-billion-dollar-vaguely-defined-giant-of-industry schtick, which also covers (with very different tones) Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark.

Queen and Rand also parallel each other in that their most notable runs were as part of buddy-cop odd-couple duos, and that both pretty famously turned into progressive mouthpieces for their respective publishers in the 70's. Green Lantern/Green Arrow dealt with the conflict/tension between the straight-laced law-and-order Hal and the bleeding heart populist hero Oliver, while Heroes for Hire dealt (perhaps more subtly) with race relations issues, privilege, and class between Luke and Danny.

Iron Fist's background kind of vaguely fuses vague, indistinct Eastern mysticism with Danny's kind of New Age hippie personality, which has me curious to see (particularly in light of the trailer) how they decide to play his interaction with Rand(-Meachum) Corp. At various times in the comics, Danny's ranged from kind of a silent partner who just uses his stake to maintain a well-off lifestyle while he pursues other things to an activist charitable type who leverages his company's resources and policy directions to act with a more non-profity mission.

Just saw Logan. It was excellent. And they just said to hell with (what passes for) continuity in the X-Men movies. They used it if it worked for the story, and ignored it if it didn't.
