Can you guys talk about performance? What platform you guys running it on? If PC, what settings are you getting for what hardware?

They made Sarah "less sexualized" with the day one patch because of gamergate. That's probably why most of the characters look like sh!t.

Spoiler:

Right side is what you get with a physical, unpatched copy of the game.

But hey at least you can do stuff like this:

Tried running it on my kids PC, which is my old gaming rig (Probably 5 year old hardware, maybe even older. But it does have a Radeon R7 370 GPU).

It ran like ****. Even on Lowest settings.

It runs great on my new PC, but I've got a pretty good rig. (i7 6700K, GeForce 1070, etc)

I was going to buy multiple PC copies, so that my kids can play, too. But after seeing how it ran on the old PC, I opted to buy a second copy on PS4, instead.

EDIT:

I was going to try it on my gaming laptop, which is about 3 years old, but I could not get it to launch, at all. I think it's a driver issue, but I didn't have time to troubleshoot it. If I get it running on there, tonight, I'll let you know.

Screeling, what kind of PC specs do you have?

Well, I went ahead and got a month of Origin Access to try it out. It ran acceptably well on High settings.

I'm running a 2010 AMD Phenom 2 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and an AMD R9 390 8GB GPU. Parts of the new Citadel and the desert planet definitely have huge framerate hits, particularly in the new Mako, for reasons I can't figure out (nothing amazing graphically seems to be going on). But for the most part, I get around 30-45 fps at 1080p with the worst drops down into the teens.

Compare this to what I'm reading about consoles dipping down to just below 900p (PS4) or under that (XBone) and both are capped at 30 fps, I'm a little unsure as to what platform to buy for (PC or XBox). Reviews I'm seeing say they also suffer from the same slideshow framerate hits.

As I don't own a PS4 or Xbone, I'm running on:

i7 6700k 4.00ghz
16GB ram
GTX970 FTW 4GB edition

Ran smooth, like butter.

I'm running:

i5-3570 OC'd to 4.4ghz
16GB RAM
AMD R9 290 4GB

running at 1080P on High (the game-recommended settings). There are definite occasional framerate hits, but I haven't noticed it during combat, and I would say overall it runs pretty smoothly, especially since my system is long overdue for an upgrade.

Went ahead and purchased it at release and continued my save, so far, still enjoying it. The animation is not bothering me at all, honestly, my biggest complaint so far is the buffy-ication of the crew, in that everyone is kind of "too clever" and constantly making "hilarious" quips. It's still early in the game, but it does seem to happen in most conversations. My other primary complaint would be that you can't pause a playing cinematic, and there's regularly unskippable transition animations (moving around a planet in the same system, landing your ship, etc). Kind of annoying in this day and age.

Overall though, still having tons of fun with it, I like the new main (I'm playing Sarah), and expect to put a bunch of hours into it.

Oh lord, the "Planet Scanning" run up and back off animations. That's fairly terrible.

Other than that, I'm having a blast :) Combat focused Sniper Rifle Sarah.

I'm enjoying it, some thoughts:
RE: Graphics
there are a couple of places the animations are strange.
Walking animations outside combat for humans are awkward and oddly bent kneed.
Several of the characters (including default Sarah) have their necks thrust forward, putting their noses about 3 inches ahead of where they would be naturally (or all pathfinders have a weird neck joint)
I can't tell if the strange fuzziness on the starting planet was deliberate due to the cloud or some artifact of my install.
My light-blue haired asian Sarah has some strange hair-shadow artifacts causing her hair to flicker.
The omni-tools look like fuzz rather than the sharp glowing omni-tools of ME1-3. Not a fan.

Not a fan of the default controls, but hesitant to change them.

I played one multiplayer game and was kicked after it by my team. Not sure why, yes I under-performed but not by much. I at least managed to extract, not everyone did., but I had the only L1 character with off the shelf gear and minimal powers on a bronze mission. For Day 1 play, some people are pretty competitive.

It was my perception that the game adjusted the ethnicity of Alec to match Sarah. Nice touch.

Noting the story/multiplayer mix (have not played yet directly from the story.) looking forward to it.

Not a huge fan of the journal system yet.

Menu systems are sometimes counter-intuitive. (particularly character creation) I'm sure I'll get used to it, but its not a good change from ME1-3

I noticed that too, wasn't just you. I thought it was motion blur at first, tried to find somewhere to disable it in the menus, but since it went away after that first mission I haven't noticed it again.

I was having fun with it, but attempted to buy it on XBox and hit too many roadblocks (system problems I guess) that I just got frustrated and gave up. Decided I wasn't enjoying it that much to pay full price yet.

I liked what this guy had to say about the game. Pretty much the only reviewer I trust these days.

I think its the "Film Grain" effect. Its a tad bit too strong.

They had that crap in the original games too and it was an immediate turn-off option.

Thoughts 2.0
-killed my first Architect-- felt fairly epic
-annoyed by conversation targeting-- sometimes I can be right next to someone, can't bring up the Y-menu even if its only selection object on screen
-Asari are all.... 'cute' -- its a bit jarring
-crafting system is simple but feels a bit overwhelming at first.

oh and:
MAMMAL HAS NO MEANING OUTSIDE EARTH BIOLOGY.

I am once again disappointed in Bioware. Like Mass Effect 3, I will be playing only the multiplayer.

Planetary surfaces Eos & Voeld are huge once you either clear the radiation or expand your Nomad's life support capabilities. Very daunting to explore.

Nomad is far less frustrating once you get the 2nd tier of upgrades (Boost 2, Higher max speed, higher 6wd speed) -- which really means you have better traction for climbing hills.

I have ceased being disappointed by Bioware, because I stopped playing their games.

It's fairly liberating, you should all try it.

I haven't played it and have no desire to based on all the feedback. That's the disappointment.

• Worse animations than the first game
• Exceptionally bad planet scanning
• Forced SJW dialogue
• Inability to control teammate abilities/gear
• Seemingly generic story/motivations
• Technical issues
• Dialogue performed in a vacuum
• Bad back-and-forth quests
• Useless jump jet mechanics on any difficulty > normal
• Useless cover system
• Many skills not viable unless playing on easy

first patch is tomorrow. They've promised to fix the dead-face/eye issues, and planet zoom issues.

Noticed a problem myself with inability to start a new game on the same profile. If you do, the game gets in this strange dual state. Fresh out of cryo there are multiple versions of the same character standing about the sickbay, quests stuck so you can't open doors. Very surreal.

According to what I viewed on a gaming news channel, they outsourced the facial animations of humans and asari to another company. A source also supposedly said that EA was okay with them taking another 4-5 months on the game, but Bioware chose to push it out.

This sounds consistent with an on-time bonus or something. EA's like "No, take all the time you need to get it right... it'll save us some money, too."

Meanwhile, Bioware's like, "No, it's cool. Let's push it out now, cash our checks, and let people assume that evil EA is behind the rush."

I mean... this is so terrible... I can't tell if Bioware just sucks this much now or if this was their attempt to further thumb their nose at heterosexual men this iteration by making the only attractive female romance awful even when it's gay.

ME3's ending was a cluster **** and their entire fanbase was upset they didn't apologize, but when the five trannies that bought Andromeda get upset with a character that shouldn't have been in the game in the first place they get a formal apology:
