Since when do we let universities enforce laws? If they're following the same rules as every other private police force, there's nothing wrong with this.

Probably not, for the same reason a city police force doesn't supersede the county or state police, but it's irrelevant. If they're sworn police officers commissioned in the State of Alabama they have to follow the same rules as any other police officer - which includes taking people to court of they're arrested. The court is most assuredly not subject to church authority.
What this church has really done is open itself up to immense financial liability. I can already sense leftists and atheists licking their chops and dreaming up ways to gin up a complaint and a lawsuit. I sense this congregation has essentially committed suicide.
