Spoiler:
To be more specific, the Gunslinger even mentions Thomas and his friend and their pursuit of Flagg in one of the books.

Book 2.
Spoiler:
"When Roland’s reflecting on his past encounters with alchemists, magicians and demons, he recalls a creature he once encountered that the gunslinger believed to be a demon himself — “a creature that pretended to be a man and called itself Flagg.” How utterly cool to see that Roland saw Randall Flagg briefly, “near the end, as chaos and the final crash approached his land.” Flagg was being pursued by two young men named Dennis and Thomas, and they “had crossed only a tiny part of what had been a confused and confusing time in the gunslinger’s life."”

I enjoyed the movie, for what it was. But it felt very, VERY rushed. It could have used another 45 minutes, or so, to slow the pace a bit.

I was on the fence about McConaughey being the Man in Black, but he did a great job. The kind of villain you love to hate.

I liked it... But I am very easy to please and I don't remember the books I did read.

Same here. It just made me want to go back, and read them all again. That's got to be a good thing, right?

Maybe the movie is all just viral marketing to get the word out about the books. "You've seen the terrible movie, now if you want to know the REAL story, here's book 1!"

I didn't hate it. There were elements I quite liked, particularly Elba (McConaughey would be perfect for The Stand's Randall Flagg, but I'm not so keen on him as the Dark Tower version). I'm hard-pressed to call it "bad", aside from some clearly studio-imposed editing that resounded with clunkiness.

It's a dumbed-down, streamlined, massively oversimplified attempt to corral such a sprawling, expansive work into a 95-minute(!) film, and it wound up being a passable summer adventure movie that faded from memory as you were watching it.

It's biggest sin wasn't that it was bad; it's that it was a mediocre, minor work when its source material is...not that. I don't think it's a travesty. I wish it were better, but it could have been much worse.

This. It could have been like some other book to movie adaptations (ones that rhyme with blender's shame, tarragon, and barshop droopers I am looking at you)
