But if Martin kicks the bucket, Sanderson can finish the series in 2.

I was trying to figure out how to make that joke properly, but had to go for the setup instead. Well played.

No you guys, he totally said he's going to release the next book in 2018! You know, like he's said every year for the last 10...

Re: the show-
Spoiler:
Man, I guess Dorne and the sand snakes are just... done. What a waste of a good book storyline.

Also, I'm looking forward to the Stark reunion, it's going to be great when Arya and Sansa are going in for the reunion hug and someone slashes Sansa's throat right in front of her. /starklife

Yes. All of this. The show has gutted the Greyjoys. No Victarion, either, IIRC. Which makes me sad, because the dude's a badass and I'm sure the books will have a scene where he storms a ship in plate armor without so much as a boarding plank and absolutely destroys the opposing crew before the rest of his crew manages to climb aboard, and we won't see such a potentially glorious visual scene in live action.

Well, we basically got this at the end of episode 2. Euron's axe was a direct reference to Victarion. We also got to see Euron's crew removing the tongues of anyone they were taking as prisoners. I expect that:
Spoiler:
Cersei will kill the final Sand Snake in front of her mother. Then she's going to give Ellaria to Euron, he's going to remove her tongue, and she will become the show's Dusky Woman.

Seems reasonable. And yeah, that entire scene had me going "this is so Victarion's scene" ...

Euron and Cersei are why we can't have nice things. :(

They deserve each other.

I know it was a joke. And Sanderson has said (to my face) that he will not finish another author's series again.

However..... my wife asked what if the option to finishing Melanie Rawn's fantasy series was on the table. He went into what I can only describe as "giddy deep thought." And then he said that he would seriously have to reconsider his stance on that for her series alone.

So, you never know!

(and then Sanderson proceeded to destroy me in a game of Magic the Gathering)
