The menu shake stuff was definitely dumb. Not sure I understand your other complaint though. You mean as far as story or just how to play in general?

What I will say is that this is a beta (you know this) so of course it's going to be geared toward people who are already hyped for it. There's a big difference between a beta and a demo. Seems a bad expectation expecting to hop into a beta and expect to have your hand held.

I already planned on going the PC route for this game anyway, but the beta proved to me it is the superior platform to play this game. The controls felt super dialed in and the game ran buttery smooth at 4k 60fps. The company working with Bungie for the PC version is doing it right - it didn't feel like a shoddy port like I feared it would be.

Never played it on PC so I have no idea what menu shake is. Did you use a controller or mouse/keyboard?

I tried the beta on xbone. It was okay but I had some serious issues with the balance between the three classes. I DO NOT like the golden gun changes for the Hunter. I will play it but I don't know if it will be all that it should. I love the first game. Time will tell I guess.

Ok, so I tried Destiny 2's beta since it's on PC - I don't get why everyone is so hyped. It's a nice looking average gameplay FPS. the double jump is neat, but it felt like I was just a random mook with 3 guns. I only played the intro level, and you can definitely tell the game is NOT well designed for people who have never played the first one.

Also, the menu shake/movement when you move the mouse is distracting AS ****

You REALLY need to play the first one. And see why that intro mission is so critical. Losing your light/powers is like Superman becoming human in Superman 2. It's a huge deal, and I'm extremely excited to see how we will get our powers back in the story.

As far as the gameplay, it's hard to tell from that one mission, but the End Game of Destiny was basically a loot grind, similar to Diablo games. So you could eventually have exotic weapons and armor, that could completely change the way your character is built/played. And the gunplay in Destiny is some of the smoothest, and exciting I've ever seen.

I'm still looking for my God-Rolls on a few of my D1 weapons. Admittedly, this will be less of a factor in D2, because they are changing the way perks/rolls work, but finding a gun that suits your playstyle is very, very satisfying.

I LOVE Destiny 1, and I've pre-ourchased it on PS4 & PC. I'll likely play the PS4 version only up until the PC version comes out in October. Or maybe occasionally raid with my old PS4 clan mates. It's just too hard to go back to 1080P @ 30 FPS, when you've seen it at 4k @ 60 FPS. It gorgeous!

And speaking of raids, D1 has some amazing raids! They are designed for 6-man Fireteams, and they are incredibly fun, with raid-boss mechanics, similar to MMO's, and even raid tier loot items. It's just really hard to see all of the things that D1 brought to the table, in one single-player mission during a beta test. This game is SO much more than that mission would ever be able to show.

Powers? It had powers? o_O Nothing mentioned that at all.

Can't play the first one, it's not on PC and I'm not buying a console just to play it.

I can't play FPS games with a controller, so mouse/kb

No, by powers he means how Guardians can't really be killed because of the powers (the Light) the Traveller (that big white moon just above the surface that was getting attacked) bestowed on select earthlings. That's what we saw taken away at the end of the campaign level there and the reason his Ghost (little flying bot) fell to the ground dead.

I disagree with Caleria though - you don't need to play D1. You would, however, benefit from watching a "Destiny Lore Explained" type video on YouTube. The story is so poorly strung together and it relies too dang much on grimoire cards to flesh it out. It's not as bad as Dark Souls, but your time would be better spent watching a video of it. Somebody on YouTube can explain the plot and the factions in less than 30 minutes.

Yes, your double jump, grenade/melee, & your Super (yellow bar that fills up, which you unleash with the F key) are all powers/abilities that are granted to you by the Light of the Traveler. So losing those (AND the ability to be resurrected by your ghost) is a HUGE deal. I'm curious to see how our Guardians will get them back.

And, I mis-spoke, earlier. You don't really need to PLAY the first one. But you should at least watch a video, or read a synopsis of the first one. It would help explain the impact of that first mission, a lot.

The Lore from this series is amazing, but it's too bad you don't actually SEE most of it in game. The story itself is very light (almost non-existent) in most of D1. Like Screeling said, the Lore is hidden behind out-of-game grimoire cards. And some of these are pretty good, while others are pretty lack luster. I really hope that they flesh out the lore & story a lot more, in the second game.

If you've got A LOT of time on your hands, you can go to http://destiny-grimoire.info/ and read some, or all, of the grimoire card entries from the first game. There's some pretty good stuff, hidden in there. I highly suggest the ones dealing with Thorn and The Last Word. Those are probably my favorite Lore entries from the grimoire cards.

This does bring up an interesting point. I played Destiny 1 on X-Box One. Several of the folks I played it with aren't all that enthused about 2, so I'm not sure I have to be locked to the console -- and my PC can definitely outperform my X-Box. I haven't been following 2 closely, so maybe somebody who has been can help me out, here.

I know that Microsoft was touting cross-platform play as a thing that they were pushing to be at least possible, and that they were also pushing developers to take advantage of the option for single purchase/multiple platform digital download between Windows 10 and X-Box One. However, I also noted that Destiny 2 is being distributed through Battle.net, so I assume the latter deal isn't being offered.

How are accounts being handled cross-platform? The little I've read has suggested you could carry over your Guardians in some limited fashion (I'm guessing some appearance stuff, a title, and maybe throwaway dialogue lines about how far you got in the story?), how is that being handled on the PC since Destiny 1 never got ported there? If the accounts aren't linked to a platform, can you switch back and forth with the same character and data?

Basically, I'm trying to figure out whether to bother getting the console version -- if I can flip over to X-Box on occasion if my friends get back into Destiny, that might be worth the extra purchase to me, but not if I'm going to have to maintain separate characters and grind on both platforms.

As of right now, there will be no Cross-Platform or Cross-Save functionality. So if you play on one platform, none of your progress will transfer to any other platform.

As far as the PC version goes, everyone will be starting from scratch. There may be a handful of emblems or whatever, that are tied to your Bungie account, but none of your character progress will carry over.

Your achievements are tied to your Bungie account, so the carryover from D1 stuff will occur regardless of platform. There's no cross-save, though, and I think they discontinued transferring from 360 to Bone and PS3 to PS4.

Blizzard also has account linking with XBox gamer tags too, so that's a route I suppose they could go (but likely won't). I think it very likely they will use this Blizzard-XBox gamertag linking for cross-promotional Blizzard stuff to promote other games with small rewards for incentive.

For example, one promotion I played a certain amount of games of Heroes of the Storm on PC. I got free Overwatch skins on Xbox (really sweet ones too!).

Keeping in mind that I am pretty easy to please...

I played Destiny 2 for about six hours yesterday and **** loved it. My biggest ***** so far...my character seems to have lost the ability to speak. He had lines in the first game, not sure what happened here. They let the ghost do all the talking.

Not many, though. I think there were only 2 or 3 scenes where your guardian speaks in the first one. I think he/she says something to the Awoken Queen, and makes a joke about "The Stranger" calling your ghost "Little Light." That's honestly the only spoken lines I can remember, from D1. Everything else was dialog between your ghost and whoever happened to be on comms with you for the mission you were on.

I only got to play for an hour or two, but I loved it, too.

The best part, for me, was the look back at all of my major achievements from Destiny 1. It showed when I first raided the Vault of Glass, and who I was grouped with, too! Same thing for the Crota's End, and King's Fall raids. That was a very nice touch, but it makes me wonder how they will handle the Guardians that are transitioning to PC.

In the same way. It just looks at your bungie profile and sees what you've done. It's not actually reading your save file.

I am probably 8 or 9 hours in, a mix of both PVP and PVE, and I am really enjoying it. There are a lot of quality-of-life improvements over the first that always should have been there, but that I appreciate nonetheless.

Crim, if you are worried about not knowing how to do anything, don't worry. Everything has a popup tutorial explanation. How to shoot, how to jump, how to melee, how to throw grenade, how to use your super ability, how to change items, yadda... The popups wont go away until you do what they ask, either, so they are kind of hard to miss.

Changes I appreciate:
• Narrative is much better. Bad guys are humanized. Cutscenes are well-directed.
• Public events are expanded and all have heroic versions now with secret triggers, that offer better lewtz
• In-game clans are a thing, with clan bonuses based on activity shared through everyone (weeklies, raid completion, helping newbs through finder, etc.)
• Finding groups / filling missing spots through your menu is now a thing, mentioned above
• FAST TRAVEL to any planet any time (assuming you have been taken there by the story). Huge one. Don't have to go to orbit for anything, anymore.
• Hugely expanded inventory / vault with more organizational options
• Unlocking subclasses are mini-quests with fun endings

Changes I am not sure about:
• Armor shaders are single use now. This has caused quite a stir (40k+ upvotes) on Reddit
• You don't get any preorder bonuses until you complete the single player campaign
• Weapons / Armor perks are dumbed down a bit due to the new mod system
• There's a form of cash shop that is kinda P2W (bright engrams*)

Full review of the game is incomplete. I have not completed the campaign, have not reached level 20, the clan functionality is not in yet (should be within days) and the raid is not being added until week two. Currently level 11 with 118 power rating and two exotic armors. Level cap is 20 and power level (based on gear stats) can go up to 300.

* Bright Engrams are randomized reward containers similar to loot boxes in Overwatch. You can purchase them for Silver (Destiny's real money currency) or you can grind them out after reaching max level. Every time you get enough exp to gain another level, you get an engram instead. They can contain weapon/armor mods, exotic weapons/armor, item shaders, etc. You can't straight out buy items to gain an advantage but you could buy a hell of a lot of engrams if you wanted to roll the dice.

General Beginner Tips/Knowledge

Spoiler:
1) Each planet has an exotic weapon quest you can get from completing all the missions on that planet. Check the planet specific sections for guides.

2) Engrams have their light level decided on drop, not on decrypt.

3) You'll receive a choice from 3 Exotic Weapons once you complete the [INSERT] story mission, and a later mission will give you a shot at 3 armor pieces depending on your class. Do some digging on which ones you should get. Many people seem unhappy with their choices.

4) You receive a couple bright engrams from Eververse at some point through the story(and each time you 'level up' after lvl 20). this is where you have a chance to get a SPARROW , and it WILL carry over to your other characters.

5) If you open chests or pick up planetary material, don't run away from the chests. There is a chance you wont get your rewards.

6) Public Events and their time to availability can be seen by opening your map.

7) Each planet has tokens that drop from reward chests. these are simply turned in to that specific planets faction vendor for reputation, earning a legendary engram

8) Your other subclasses drop from public event chests. I got mine from doing heroics, so thats probably a good bet. once it drops, you need to charge the artifact. You need to kill enemies in a fireteam then complete a short 10 minute mission.

9) The weakpoint for Phalanx enemies is actually in the center of the shield

10) Weapon Mods/Shaders and Infusion - Mods are obtained from Legendary Engrams and eververse engrams Mods can also drop from ranking up the gunsmith. they are 1 time use.

11) Weapon infusions have to be of the same category. Submachine guns need submachine guns for example

12) All exotics come with a legendary element mod, which adds +5 power to the weapon in addition to changing its element. You need to take the BASE stats of an exotic into consideration when infusing.(Power level and then subtract 5)

13) Lost Sectors are just hidden loot areas visible on your map. Go in, find the yellow bar enemy and kill it so you can loot the chest inside. They seem to be RELOOTABLE after a certain time frame

14) You can fast travel while in patrol.

15) While in any given area, High value targets will appear and be noted on the bottom left of your screen. They are just yellow bar enemies, and killing them drops a chest. chests also drop subclass artifacts for unlocking your other subclasses so try to also look out for those

16) Cap for blue engrams is 265. You'll need faction packages and special mission rewards like nightfalls to get past this point

17) Its not recommended to start saving engrams for the Nessus exotic Quest unless you are close to the 260 light area. Focus on leveling as quickly as possible. Exotics are one of the only ways to level past 260 and these quest rewards are guaranteed exotics; so plan out how and when you will claim them

18) Eventually Cayde will be selling treasure maps. They help you locate his special chests around the game. WAIT UNTIL YOU ARE 260 TO DO THESE because they can drop high tier rewards, and we dont waste good loot 'round here

19) Ikora will give you whats called "Meditations". They simply allow you to replay story missions. Currently unknown if there are any hidden rewards

20) You can determine the detonation time from grenade launchers if you hold the button instead of tapping it. Grenades detonate upon release

21) Save Exotic Quests for when you are at 260 light. They are one of the only ways to level up past that.

22) The old faction vendors are no where to be found. Unfortunately, Datto's 10% ownership of FWC is now worthless and datto is broke, send him your love.

23) Raid will drop on Wednesday the 13th

24) There is a suspected raid exotic quest called "Await the World Eater"

I picked up both my subclass quest doing public events. I didn't know they were going to do the void bow again, I can't wait to finish it. Up to level 16 now, the beta test did this game dirty. I am not seeing any other currency, I assume Xur isn't making a come back?

He's coming back Sep. 15. His currency will be legendary shards.

Four week roadmap: https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/46234

TL;DR -
• 9/13 - Leviathan Raid
• 9/15 - Trials of the Nine, Xur
• 9/26 - Leviathan "Guided Games" Beta, Faction Rally
• October - Iron Banner and Raid "Prestige" difficulty

Nightfalls and flashpoints reset on Tuesdays. Trials and Xur reset on Fridays.

Clans are now live. Can have up to 100 members. Each member's characters can contribute 5,000 exp to the clan every week. Every week you can get all your clan members 4 engrams for completing raid, nightfall, pvp, trials of the nine. There are 6 clan levels, each one after the first gives a passive perk to all members:

• Lvl 2 (100k exp) - Increased glimmer
• Lvl 3 (??? exp) - Increased public event rewards
• Lvl 4 (??? exp) - Increased cabal drops
• Lvl 5 (??? exp) - Increased faction item drops
• Lvl 6 (??? exp) - Increased chance of engram rewards when playing w/ clan members

I had the same question.

Spoiler:
I replayed that mission with my daughter, and got to watch the cutscene again. It's still very unclear. You hear him grunt off-screen, and then The Consul releases him from the device that he was suspended from. However, it's not clear whether he killed him, or not. I think he killed him, because he was angry at Ghaul. Also, since Ghaul proceeded to strangle him to death, it makes me believe that he was enraged by The Speaker's death.

That's my take on it, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

24) There is a suspected raid exotic quest called "Await the World Eater"

 thanks for posting this. hate to waste xp or loot levels

Have heard of many people going from like level 5 - 20 in a handful of hours just spamming heroic public events on Titan.
