Well, to be fair, none of those characters seem to have the sort of charm and whatnot exuded by Pratt, Cooper, and friends.

It just feels... bland.

Definitely true. Not that I'd expect an 8 episode ABC television mini-series to hire actors with the charm of those hired for a big budget motion picture. Although Ramsay Bolton (Don't care the actor's name. He's forever Ramsay Bolton) has a certain "anti-charm."

I'll check it out through my usual method of watching television - Arrrr.

Key difference, though, is Marvel film vs. Marvel broadcast TV. The Marvel films have consistently (well, most of 'em) been excellent. Marvel broadcast television is...spotty, at best. Agent Carter was great, because of the writing, the milieu, and of course, Hayley Atwell. Agents of SHIELD is...not. And this looks even cheaper and more slapdash than AoS.

The premium subscription television (Netflix, etc.) is better, but even then, I loved Daredevil season one and really liked Jessica Jones season one, couldn't make it through DD S2, and never bothered to even start Luke Cage or Iron Fist (the latter because while I liked Cage in JJ I didn't like him quite enough to follow him to a solo series, and reports of its slow-moving nature, even for a Netflix show, put me off, while the overwhelming deluge of negative reviews of Iron Fist evaporated my interest in it).

Still holding out hope for Hulu's Runaways, though.

I mean, that's a quality shitpost right there, can't dispute the comedic value, but I watched the trailer and didn't really find it to be all that egregious.

I really enjoyed Spider-Man: Homecoming. One of the better MCU villains (which is surprising, 'cuz Spider-Man's rogues gallery is...not great), fun and personal in scope in a way that MCU films don't often let themselves be anymore, and Tom Holland is perfect.

Awww, that's sweet. Peter Parker was indeed the little kid in the Iron Man mask who faces off against a drone in Iron Man 2.

Spiderman was soooooo good. Definitely one of the better MCU movies.

It is the first one I have felt the need to see more than once while still in the theater. I went Friday night and the theater was half full. Not bad really.

Finished The Defenders today. It seems they have learned their lesson when it comes to the number of episodes needed to tell a good story. A nice compact eight episodes instead of the thirteen they did for the solo characters. I enjoyed it. I still want to see Iron Fist in the suit... He was slightly less whiney in this.

If most of the supporting cast from the individual shows are absent, maybe I can give this a shot. Honestly it just got frustrating watching minor characters crap up a decent story.

So far (For episodes in) they have maybe 2 brief scenes each.

Though my co-worker has described it as "Plot is basically trying to repair the suckage of Iron Fist"
My other co-worker's reaction was, "Again with the damn ninjas???"

Anyone looking forward to Runaways?

Phe and I have tickets to the advance showing of Thor: Ragnarok tomorrow night. I'm legitimately excited for a Thor film, which is something that has never happened before, even after (or during) watching them.

I'd be more looking forward to Runaways if they weren't on Hulu. Pick a streaming distributor and stick with them, Disney.

Unless Molly somehow makes this a Fox license or something.

After two mediocre outings, Taika Waititi did the impossible and made a great (and I mean **** *****') Thor movie.

Thor: The Asgard stuff is OK enough, but the Earth stuff is an unending bore.
Thor: The Dark World: Aggressively mediocre and largely dull, it only came alive when A) Loki was onscreen, or B) during the admittedly bonkers fun of the climax with the portal-fighting.
Thor: Ragnarok: Pure fun from start to finish.

Your assessment of 1 and 2 perfectly echo my thoughts on it so I had intended to blow off #3. You feel #3 is a theater-must-see, or just a great movie that shouldn't be missed but can wait for bluray?

Personally, I'd recommend seeing it in the theater...its whole glorious '80s-neon aesthetic pops on big cinema screens, and the wall-to-wall jokes land best with a crowd.

Thor was fantastic. The best Hulk ever. And it is the first time they have used a after the credit teaser, in one of the movies.

Just saw it, I was disappointed, but I had really looked forward to seeing it so perhaps my expectations were set too high.

I loved it.

I saw it. I was entertained. I liked the bits where they carried the joyous metal soundtrack into a couple of the fight scenes. It worked as brilliantly there as in the trailer. The actual scoring was still uninspiringly bland Marvel dreck, though.

The friend I saw it with was very put off by Thor cracking wise, and while it didn't jump out at me the way it did with her, I can't say I disagree. I get *why* they did it -- Downey's contract is up and/or expiring, and so they're floundering around trying to see who else can successfully pull off that role, since they've taken the "mix action and funny" lesson to heart that DC has never been able to get right. But it felt weird, and forced. Thor's an amazing straight man, that's his dynamic.

Ah, well.
