McCarthy has been digging into this for months.

He also originally assured us nothing like this could ever happen. I would have, for years, agreed with him.Now he says he was wrong.

Quote:
Still, the FBI and Justice Department elected not to tell the FISA court that the Clinton campaign was paying for Steele’s unverified, unverifiable anti-Trump research. I spent many months assuring people that nothing like this could ever happen — that the FBI and Justice Department would not countenance the provision to the FISA court of uncorroborated allegations of heinous misconduct. When Trump enthusiasts accused them of rigging the process, I countered that they probably had not even used the Steele dossier. If the Justice Department had used it in writing a FISA warrant application, I insisted that the FBI would independently verify any important facts presented to the court, make any disclosures that ought in fairness be made so the judge could evaluate the credibility of the sources, and compellingly demonstrate probable cause before alleging that an American was a foreign agent. I was wrong.

Rynar is not just pissing in the wind with conspiracy theories here.

Of course I'm not, although I'm glad mainstream sources are coming around on this.

DE, if you haven't yet, review what I've provided in the other thread.

It's worthwhile.

I have, but I need to read it again carefully. I could quibble with some of the details (for example, I find it difficult to believe that the Deputy AG did not have an SCI clearance. I've got an SCI clearance.) but not enough so to undermine the overall thrust of the information.

And now it seems Mueller has indicted 13 Russians, with no allegation anywhere in there than any American was knowingly involved. They were, to be sure, supporting Trump mostly, but also Bernie a little and Jill Stein. Anyone but Hillary?

Why?

Because the Russians, like everyone else, thought Hillary was sure to win.

The goal of the Russians was to sow discord, not to elect Trump. The indictment indicates they immediately started organizing against Trump as soon as he won.

I must say, they've succeeded wildly.

It’s unforgivable to get involved in a sovereign nations elections. Unless, of course, it’s being done by the US, then it’s OK, and heck, we can even throw a little effort to overthrow their government while we’re at it. ;)

Nations, unlike people are not created equal.

Why do you think we tolerated Russia's invasions of Georgia and Ukraine (even if by proxy)? We would never tolerate... Iran, for example, invading those nations.

Because Russia is Russia. I do not think I need to explain what Russia can do if it feels excessively threatened. We can do the same. The world is returning to the proper order of 2 or 3 large powers instead of just one, and those powers needing to take each other seriously. The honeymoon of not having serious adversaries is over, for us and for Europe.

Now coming out of the House Intel Committee: No evidence of a Trump/Russia collusion; James Clapper allegedly guilty of internal leaks.

Andrew McCabe fired hours before he was due to retire and collect his pension.

Word is that he was given every opportunity to cooperate with the ongoing investigation, and the ability to retire and collect his pension in order to have those dollars available to him to mount his upcoming legal defense. He refused until the last, and was fired as a result.

He'll still get his actual pension. What he will not get is his (quite generous) early retirement benefits.

I don't think his actual pension will cover his legal expenses, though.

They will not. He will be ruined financially, and will go to jail.

Criminal charges are coming for him. He was denied access to the upcoming IG report on those grounds.

As an aside, there is something to be said here about the Federal tactic of running people out of money to get them to plead guilty. It happened to Flynn and it will happen to McCabe too, and I think that pleas of guilty ought not to hang on the ability of the accused to pay lawyers.

This is problematic, though I'm not sure there is a better system. Like all else, legal counsel is a commodity.

It is, but it also includes a great deal of rent-seeking. The problem is not so much the cost of the legal defense counsel itself, but the fact that the prosecution can rely on that cost to exhaust the resources of the defendant, while the government faces no such hurdle - in fact, doubly so because prosecutors are paid on a civil service scale like any other employee (albeit generally at the top of the ladder) while defense attorneys can charge far more per hour.

This is similar to the European idea that the prosecution should be able to appeal a "not guilty" verdict because error is error. It completely ignores the fact that the impact of ongoing litigation on the defendant is completely different than the government - even if the defendant is not bankrupted, and never found guilty, their entire life can be put on hold and possibly irreparably damaged simply by the accusation while the government goes on as it always does.

That does not mean we should not ever accuse people of crimes, but it speaks to the superiority of our system, where "not guilty" is "not guilty" and error necessarily must go to the benefit of the accused. There is no shortage of other crimes to prosecute if someone is wrongly found innocent.

I am not sure I have an effective solution in mind but I think it is a problem that requires consideration.

I just had a fantastic laugh. Who ever would have though that you and I would be having a conversation, and you'd be the one to advance an argument against the financially punitive nature of the justice system. I agree with your argument. Cheers.

I'm fine with financially punitive as long as it comes after the conviction. Running someone out of money to get a conviction is putting the cart before the horse. - especially since there is likely to be yet more "financially punitive" behavior afterwards.

It seems that wherever we see issues of misapplication of the justice system, money is at the root of it. In Ferguson, for all the hoopla about "racism", the real root of the issue was the town using its police as its piggy bank. Asset forfeiture is an odium wherein the government simply helps itself to assets through civil process. Where I live, there is no end of shysters advertising that they "defend the people" on billboards and on television - by suing anyone they can over any readily available auto accident (I know that's not a criminal proceeding, but if you saw the sheer volume of these attorneys in this area you'd be astounded).

Legal services are, indeed, a commodity, but I also don't know that rent-seeking off of the government's prosecutorial power is quite how either the legal system or the market is supposed to work.

Today FOX reported that there are documents which link the FISA abuse scandal within the FBI directly to the former President and the Clinton campaign.

Oh, and a grand jury is empaneled for Uranium1.

Bad actors in the CIA are being taken down. Their operations have been crushed in North Korea, and in Saudi Arabia.

And there it is. Mike Flynn exonerated.

New bevy of google docs and texts by Strozyk and Page indicated direct attempts to frame Flynn and direct faulty intel at the behest of Obama himself.

There are nooses in the future of many.

Declassified House Intel report now confirms that Dianne Feinstein staffer hired Fusion GPS/Christopher Steele after the election to continue to push bogus Russian narrative in the press. Raised $50 million for the purpose.

Feinstein never disclosed this, even while directly overseeing investigation into Fusion GPS.

Hello, **** department? I'd like to file a claim.

Evidence now surfacing indicating that Andrew McCabe might actually be a Russian spy.

The Senate Judiciary committee has apparently released 1,800 pages of transcripts of interviews on the Trump Tower meeting with the 'Russian Lawyer'. This means one of two things:

1) There's nothing of consequence there

or

2) The Republicans, who control the committee (Chuck Grassley is the chairman) have just demonstrated they are the only ones who care about making sure the law is followed, even if it costs them the disaster of finding out Donald Trump (or at least his son) was, indeed, up to something.

It's amazing how when, no matter what you do the media will either find fault with it or - if they cannot reasonably find fault with it, will ignore it - there's suddenly no incentive but to open information directly to the public.
