Mechwarrior Tactics, of course, fell into a black hole. I'm very glad I never gave them any money. I doubt that will happen with this one.

Yeah, I talked for a few minutes with Weisman about this at GenCon while he was signing my Crimson Skies rulebooks. Sounds interesting, but he was a little cagey about the payment model, which could just be not being personally involved with that and not wanting to misspeak, but could also be cause for concern for me, as well. I'm watching it, in any event, and will be making some assessments during the campaign.

Yeah, that sounds like it was maybe a case of they knew they were going to kickstart, but didn't want to spread the news until they were ready enough not to lose momentum.

Oh, they were openly building buzz for the launch.

It sounded likely that it'll be a microtransaction model for long-term sustainability. Which is fine, even in a Kickstarter, so long as it's not a *collectible* format microtransaction thing. Which is where I got burned on SolForge and Hex, whose collectibility requirement quickly outstripped my Kickstarting investment as far as keeping a competitive collection. SolForge is still a fun game to play casually, so I don't regret throwing money at it, but I probably wouldn't have thrown quite as much at it (and would think twice about following up similarly on another game with a similar model) had I realized that my big chunk of change wasn't going to set me up with a good majority of the set.

Those mild burns are what sees me tempering my hype, here. I recognize the economic necessity to maintain a revenue stream that will keep the lights on on an ongoing basis on online multiplayer projects, but I want to know what it's going to cost me, and how my multiple-boxed-game-at-retail cost investment that I might Kickstart will hold up over time against that revenue stream.

Yeah, and I've backed. Single player campaign gets my money. Well, single player campaign and they're using the MechWarrior Online 3d models, which are easily the best thing that Pirhana did regarding that game.

Now, I just need to ensure that a year and a half from now, the next video starts, "When we made Shadowrun Returns and Battletech, the question we kept getting asked was, 'When will you bring Crimson Skies back?', heheh..."

I don't know, at 5 minutes in there were already a few comments asking about VOR.

Hah, already 528k of their 250k funded, with only 34 days to go. I think the nostalgia is strong with this one.

1.1 mil after 48 hours. Things are slowing down a bit. I think there's a decent chance we'll make it all the way to the pvp multiplayer unlock stage. If they introduce a tier that gives all 5 House regalia, I think I might end up in it for way too much money.

Once my "old" house is guaranteed to sell (almost there...), I'm in on this.

Stage 2 fully funded (fleshing out the single player campaign), onto stage 3 (open ended campaign) and 4 (PvP).

Still 19 days to go, I'd say it's very likely they reach the PvP milestone. Awesome!

Annnnd, in the last 48 hour push, PVP multiplayer is funded! This game should turn out to be pretty damn awesome.

So out of their 250,000$ kickstarter, they raised $2,865,422. Yeah, that should do it. Maybe they can hire a few extra coders and get it out a little quicker.

So this is out. I've been out of town over the weekend, but was able to sneak in some missions before I had to leave, and I'm pretty impressed so far. I knew from the skirmish beta that it was a relatively solid tactical interface (that does a good job of translating the crucial elements of the miniatures game to digital, from my memory), but the company management, multi-stage mission elements, and writing so far have done a good job of giving much-needed depth and context to the straight-up killiness.

I've been playing it, unfortunately I had some crashes due to a chassis fan having died on me sometime in the past. That is now replaced, and I think I'm solid through to the end. I like the single player campaign, haven't yet delved into any multiplayer. I appreciate many of the changes to the tabletop mechanics that a computer being forced to track all of the numbers has provided.
