Anyone following along? Microsoft appears to have dished all of their goods and Sony is set to dump their data today.

Not really? I mean, I'm aware new stuff is coming, and I'm aware that both are pitching them as kind of big, but incremental upgrades that will be backwards compatible with stuff.

Depending on whether this is finally the generation that MS gets serious about their cross-platform promises, this may finally make me stop caring, ironically enough. My brother likes the simplicity of consoles, and my X-Box purchases are typically concessions to him, despite keeping a computer that kicks current console generations' *** in fidelity.

That said, my TV has finally surpassed my monitor for resolution, so... *shrug*

What do you mean? Microsoft did cross platform last gen, I think only PlayStation continues to hold out.

I mean, they permit cross-platform, but they haven't really been pushing 3rd parties to support it this gen. The only games I'm aware of this gen that support cross-platform play are 1st party games like Sea of Thieves.

Hmmm not sure how you missed it but Xbox and Nintendo forcing cross play in Fortnite and Destiny were big news like two years ago. Here is a big list of cross platform games.

Sorry for the late reply -- but Destiny isn't strictly cross-play, because I can't play with my X-Box One-playing brother from my PC. Yes, I can buy the game twice (well, back when it wasn't free to play) and play from either platform with the same character, but that's not exactly the solution I'm looking for when the goal is to get away from the controller for FPS. Now, I can solo on my platform of choice, or group on the platform of my friends' choice, and benefit from the progress I've made in both places... but I still have to choose mouse or friends.

If I were still in the market, the new Xbox thing sounds really good.

Cross play and its integration at this point fall solely on the game developers. Every major platform supports it.
