Another earthquake in Northern California.

Reading about it, I stumbled on a map of the USA with recent earthquake data mapped...

Holy moly...

My father works in Eureka. I'm glad he flies home every other weekend and was in Kansas City this weekend ...

Only 397 quakes on the California map this week, that is fairly low -- really, not kidding.

Couple medium sized ones, not considered scary by us natives.

The 6.5 near Eureka rattled a few shelves, shook up a few students. Its the only one on the California map worth noticing.

The San Andreas is a strike-slip transform fault... California won't be 'falling into the ocean', it's just moving to Arizona and Oregon... but we already knew that

California is also moving into Colorado

Wow, had no idea there were so many quakes in California..I dunno might have to cross California off the list for possible relocation from Whoville.

Depends on where you relocate to. Avoid Hollister and Parkfield definitely. Here in the Sacramento area, the last quake I felt was the Loma Prieta one back in 1989. The Los Angeles Metropolitan area feels small ones on a regular basis, sometimes in regular series. San Francisco Bay Area feels them only occasionally. Until you've actually ridden a few of them out, they are scary. Once you learn the routine and the rules, they become, well never comfortable, bot not scary.

Oh, and as Uinan's picture demonstrates, someone put a hot dog bun around a dachshund puppy and took a picture. A mustard stripe down its back would have been a little weird.

It definitely won't be falling into the ocean, but it won't be in oregon anytime soon either. Only about the western little bit is moving, and it's moving southward; that earthquake map give a decent idea of the portion of the state that is moving. Which is appropriate from what I understand, as those portions have mostly hispanics in them, and they'll be in Mexico in a few million years.

It'll work out great.

Don't let the quakes prevent you from coming here. The real reason you shouldn't move here is because California is a **** hole of a state.

If you enjoy working for the gov't for a majority of the year instead of yourself, if you feel comforted by the nanny gov't, and if you don't mind a hopelessly broken bureaucracy running things, the earthquakes shouldn't be enough to put you off. California is a nice enough place to visit, but I wouldn't advise folks to move here.

I work in a hospital. I will put it back on the list to visit .. Besides, I've never been in an earthquake , so maybe I should.

Most of the western states are fairly tectonically active, to varying degrees. There's a major fault not 5 miles from my house that's something like 10,000 years overdue for a quake of catastrophic proportions.

There was a quake that registered at like 5.6 or something similar when I was in San Diego a few years back, was the largest one I'd been in. Generally there's a couple a year that are noticable where I live though; noticable to human quakes are usually around 3's, though can be a bit lower depeding on the type of wave action generated by the movement.

All depends on what a person is looking for in an earthquake, a long gentle rolling With a good series of after-shocks or up to twenty seconds of energetic jarring and done.
