Or black. He also usually sports glasses thick enough to make you wonder if he welds with them on.

At some point in my life, drinking became less about getting intoxicated and more about appreciating the drink itself. I like good wine and fine spirits. I'm also a fan of good beer. I like the taste of good whiskey, bourbon, and single malt scotch.

I hope your health turns around so you don't have to be on the meds for too long.

It wasn't until I stopped caring about getting intoxicated that drinking really became enjoyable for me. I too have learned to appreciate the vast differences among drinks. I'm actually really excited to go on my vacation this year just to try out the different beers in Peru. Last year I enjoyed Cerveza Imperial from Costa Rica, so it's that time again to try something else out that I can't find here in America.

Yea thanks guys, haven't had a drink but life has been oh so boring. But I figured out ways around that. On Friday night I rolled with some guys that had about 60-80lbs on me and I was physically to tired to do any partying. More like avoiding the problem rather than confronting it head on, but I'm doing what I can.

Damn, I love beer too ... haha. Not even getting plastered and then getting shot down by random chicks, but just having an artisan craft beer with dinner ... beer and wings, or that sort of thing.

I think I can manage this, alright.

30 daze, no drinks, nada.

This isn't too bad. But it's not going to get easier.

Sweet. That is a darn good accomplishment, way to go!
Keep it up, you can do it, and you will feel so good about yourself...even if it is really hard. Especially if it is really hard.

*katehugs* :)

Congratulations! 30 days is great - but it is always just one day at a time. As long as you don't take that drink today, you're fine.

Relapse is part of recovery, if you slip and - and with your meds this might be a valid point - survive, just start being dry again the next day. One day at a time (yeah, we say that a lot.)

That being said, it was at the three month mark it started getting easier for me.

One of the rules of recovery, RELAPSE HAPPENS.

Just because you fell today doesn't mean squat other than that you are human. Vindicarre is right, get back on the horse tomorrow. Heck, if you can sober up, go find an AA meeting tonight.

You haven't failed yourself until you give up on yourself. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and don't have a drink tomorrow. Just tomorrow. Worry about the next day, the next day.

As to the boredom, I understand your feelings. I would suggest involving yourself heavily in things that don't involve drinking, yet are morally and socially productive. Go to church and become involved, join a book club or two, pick up a second job, start attending town meetings regularly and get involved in your local town politics, maybe even run for office.

Its true dude. Relapse does happen. And it freakin' sucks. You hate yourself and feel depressed and hopeless and like a failure which just makes you want to keep doing it because hey you're already there right?
Nah.
You can quit again tomorrow. Don't be so hard on yourself. Relapsing is part of the process. Bet you stay sober for longer next time.
Hang in there bud it gets better. Back to it tomorrow.

Moving forward is what it's all about. Take some time to ponder what led to the stumble and learn from it. Move on, start over again.

You'll be fine.

Relapse is all part of life. Sometimes you just need to look at what caused the relapse and see if it is something you can avoid in the future.

Raf, you held off for 65 days. That is amazing. You do not seem like type of person who buckles in the face of adversity. If you can beat the hell out of yourself and rub some dirt on it and get back in the game with injury, you can do it with this too.

One relapse is not the end of the world. It is letting the one incident push you to quitting that is the end of the world.

You can do this bro; I have faith in you, many of us here on the board do.

I will even admit this here.. since I have quit smoking, there have been relapses. But these have been minor roadbumps, not enough to even think about any further than "oops".

Let this be an oops moment not a grinding halt.

Thanks guys, that helps a lot. No one else really has my back on this. When all your friends are heavy drinkers, it makes it hard.

The horse pretty much bucked me off a cliff; first drink being a 12" tall shot of Corvo (which I must say, was better than Patron) silver tequila is not failure. It's epic failure.

On the upside, I threw up everywhere. Wait, no, that's shitty.

Also I realized I have a huge ego. Because of my ego, when I fail, I assume it's impossible, because if I didn't accomplish it it must be insurmountable. However, I thank you for slapping me back into reality. It's easy to be strong when times are good. That's not tough, though.

I had to quit drinking last October 'cause of the effect it has on my pancreas. It's easier to do when it causes you incredible pain, I think. The pain wasn't from the beer, the pain was from my wife when she learned from the doctor that alcohol can complicate things. For some strange reason, she wants to keep me around. Perhaps I should increase my life insurance...

I do miss my beer though.

You better wipe the sand out of your snatch, pull yourself together, and get back on the horse.

I don't want to hear sorry-ass excuses about your ego. Get your **** together and try again tomorrow.
