Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at 2PM PST Shoshone, Apaches Rising Sun died. I give her full name here. She was a pedigreed German Shorthaired Pointer, although unofficial...we never registered her, because she was never a show dog, she was a part of our family.
Shoshone came to us at the age of three months, through the German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue. Her mother's owner was going through bad times and needed to find good homes for the puppies. We jumped at the chance!
A few memories...
Coming home with her the first night, she was sitting on my son's lap in the back set. She threw up on him! That was their bonding moment!
(she never was much of a traveler)
Watching her run!! She used to run the back fence line, chasing squirrels along the wires! It was the most beautiful sight to behold! She was absolutely graceful and fluid in her motions!
"Sitting on her postage stamp"...that's what we called it. She could sit in such a tiny bit of space, it was just amazing!
No matter how sneaky I tried to be, she ALWAYS knew when I was bringing her a treat! I think she was psychic! (or psychotic!
)
Shoshone had degenerative myolepethy and arthritis in her hips. I kept hoping the medications would make her better, but she kept getting worse and worse. It got to the point where she was tearing her back feet up, and had to be lifted and helped outside. I could see the pain and confusion in her eyes, and knew it was time to let her go.
Shoshone, Apaches Rising Sun go chase those critters!! I miss you very much, but know you are in a better place, now!
