Just found out last week that my company (contractor) has not been selected to handle Helpdesk operations post-merger of Pfizer/Wyeth.

In all liklihood, this means I will be losing my job as my company will have no positions available to provide for all the people on this account who will be affected.

My chances are better than most to keep my job, though, since I am a salaried employee rather than an hourly contractor. They may have something available for me somewhere, but in truth, my hopes aren't high.

This could be my wake up call, finally. I have floundered through my "career" for several years now with nothing to truly show for it. I have never been in a job that I considered secure. I think this is my call to finally go back to school and finish a degree and choose a career path.

The next few months will be the hardest as the details of our phasing out are made clear to us and I will have to put my money where my mouth is and actually follow through and get my lazy @$$ back to some sort of schooling.

So if i disappear from here for long stretches in time you will all know why.

More to come, I am sure.

I'm sorry to hear that Foamy! I hope things do straighten out for you quickly, or that you're luckier than the rest =)

If the events of the past year are any indication of your resolve and strength, I'm sure you'll land on your feet.

Keep your head up.

Huh. Good luck, man. My wife keeps hoping that I get laid off so I can find time to find a job that's more rewarding. I'm not so sure.

Good luck Foamy. Maybe this will give you the opportunity to become the househusband you've been hinting at becoming. At least for awhile.
