I've been touting for over 12 years that "Axe Murderer" is the greatest Mike Myers movie ever made, and that Austin Powers doesn't hold a candle to it. I still hold firm to that.

There's a few mentioned here I've been wanting to watch that I haven't ever gotten around to. My XBox recently red-ringed on me, so I am in the middle of getting that fixed. Once done, I'll netflix them as I go.

I'll second "Kung Fu Hustle". Love that movie.

Alatriste

If you dig musketeer movies or historical fiction, this one is excellent. Mortinson plays a Spanish "captain", Alatriste, and the film follows his life over the course of a couple decades. Mortinson, speaking spanish, is just as natural as he always is.

Suicide Kings (1997)

A group of youngsters kidnap a respected Mafia figure.

The mob figure is played by Christopher Walken, need I say more?

I caught a good bit of "She's out of my league" and it was surprisingly funny.

One of the best movies I have ever seen is Life is Beautiful.

It is a love story, a comedy, and a serious drama rolled into one and done seamlessly. It's about the holocaust, and yet had me laughing at times. At the same time, it's an extremely sad movie.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118799/

Also, Watership Down is a fantastic movie (and a better book). It is a political satire... about rabbits.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078480/

Definitely see these.

Thanks for the reminder that I need to see this. Netflix has it available instantly, but I need to carve out some time.

I'm virtually certain I'm the only person here who's ever seen this, given that it made a grand total of (less than) $6,000 in theaters when it came out:

Where's Marlowe?

Kind of similar to Man Bites Dog,, but not quite as dark.

This is a fabulous movie. Tim Curry plays the leading role...lots of dark comedy and great french-maid cleavage. One of my favorite movies.

It also has one of the best and quite quotable monologues around.

Nice! That makes you the 4861564834190 person I've recommended it to that enjoyed it. One year for Christmas it was on sale at Best Buy, I bought a copy for everyone for Christmas. My Dad, who's not a big movie watcher, called me a few days later and said "Thanks again for that movie, it was so good!"

Another recommendation for the thread: If you haven't seen it, check out "The Hudsucker Proxy". A weird little film, adult dark fairy tale. Young Tim Robbins, super-creepy Paul Newman, and an almost un-actable role nailed by Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Warning: DO NOT watch Boondock Saints 2. It was flat-out awful.

I saw Kontroll a few years ago on some cable channel or another and really loved it. It's part dark comedy, part psychological thriller, part romance, part ... something else. As the guy in the prologue says, it's best to just take the whole world as something largely metaphorical. Otherwise the plot doesn't "resolve" in the conventional sense, if that kind of thing bugs you.

The soundtrack by the Hungarian band Neo is incredible, too.

Also, Eszter Balla might just be the cutest thing ever.

I think one of the best things about this movie is that we never find out exactly why she's wearing a bear suit. No one even asks. It just has something to do with her job, which she hates. Maybe because she has to wear a bear suit.

Nice review, without giving anything away. I finally saw it, was not what I was expecting at all. I was pleasantly surprised. Didn't realize they're trying to make a trilogy of sorts. But I can see where it would be going, in a second film. Very cool.

I liked Boondock Saints 2. It just wasn't half as good as the original. But since the original was so awesome, it still makes it pretty good being only half as good. I think it tried to recreate too much of the original and it didn't work as well as they were hoping.
