Coro - the good glass toys are borosilicate and thus, much less prone to breaking/chipping than you might think.
Not to mention the fact that usage of said glass toys doesn't exactly involve them coming into contact with anything that's hard enough to cause breaking/chipping.
While that is definitely a sterling recommendation for that material, it does not in any way alleviate the need to check toys for chips and scratches before use. Frankly, I haven't seen a glass toy for sale that wasn't one of the good toys. Customers are still advised to check. Safety is about more than preventing pregnancy and disease.

And while actual use isn't likely to break a glass toy, at least not without a hell of a set of kegel muscles, accidents do happen. Toys get dropped. Things get jostled around inside the drawer. I'm not saying you shouldn't buy glass, I'm saying you need to remember to check for nicks and scratches. It only takes a minute or two.

To whit, the last time I went shopping, the clerk demonstrated the quality of the new glass toys by dropping one from five feet in the air.

How about hot oil? See, that gives one* the opportunity to oil up the contestants at the beginning of the event, then assist with the cleanup afterwards.

*Like me. You know, just as an example ;)

I've hit mine with a hammer, but mine is borosilicate (pyrex, the real stuff not the tempered glass they use in glass cookware now). I'm tempted to videotape myself using is AS a hammer (no, trashmind!) to make a point.

Silicone is actually my favourite, though. As Coro mentioned, it is dishwasher safe (though you want to get it unloaded before anyone sees) and can be sterilized with bleach or by boiling. It can even be auto-claved. And frozen, for sensation play. Of course, don't get a cheap one. Your tender bits deserve medical-grade materials... if it smells funny it is outgassing and that means the material isn't stable. The pretty 'crystal' or 'jelly' ones practically disintigrate.

Check out www.tantusinc.com (not from work)

Also, feel free to PM me with questions, I have no problems speaking frankly about this topic, which is near and dear to my h- PARTS.
