Sad thing is: while I already own Rainbow Six 3 Gold, I'm going to purchase the package anyway because my copy is the retail box version and I'd like to be able to cut ties to the physical discs.

That's not fail. That's offering a product that you like in a format that's of improved value to you.

I've re-purchased a few games on Steam to liberate myself from their discs (and CD-keys!) myself.

Kafis, I do believe the fail he refers to is that it would be cheaper to purchase the individual games, but more expensive to purchase them as a package.

$49.96 individually and $49.99 as a package.
