Ive had the epics at the end ninja'd before, simply for gold. It sucks. In ToC and the new instances, I roll need on anything I can use for any spec. Someone else will.

Ostensibly, you only roll "need" on items that fit the role you joined the group for. If the person (or people for DPS) filling that roll don't roll need, you can roll need for your offspec.

In practice, the rule seems to be that tanks and healers can roll on anything they want and DPS is supposed to only roll on DPS gear.

There's also an apparent unwritten rule that it's perfectly ok to try to pressure someone into giving you something the game won't allow you to roll need on - like the shaman that wanted cloth shoulders or warrior that wanted mail bracers and proceeded to start asking, then begging, then cursing and swearing at the winner. Amazngly no one told them to STFU and they both eventually left the group.

It's also apparently appropriate to beg and plead for someone to give you something that they beat you on a need roll for even if they're actually going to use it for the current spec. Apparently, if you just plead loudly enough it entitles you to it and makes the other person an *** for not giving it up... or at least, no one else int he group will back you up.

The generally accepted etiquette in my battlegroup is Roll Your Role. That means if it's an upgrade for the spec you're in, you get priority on it. Offspecs usually wait to see if the mainspec for that role rolled on it, and if not, they Need it. However, this etiquette is not enforceable, and there are some people who will roll Need on anything they can. You can ragequit, you can try to get the guy votekicked, or you can suck it up. None of these options really help with the situation or really are any deterrent to the people who do that. At the gear level I tend to play at, almost nobody needs any upgrades from the heroics anyways; they just want emblems. So I don't see it happen often.

My battlegroup, by unspoken consensus, rolls Need on Frozen Orbs and on the Bronze Drake, assuming the poor thing doesn't just rot on the Infinite Corruptor's corpse.

Everyone needs on Frozen Orbs on mine too (dunno if you're on mine, Mook). Wish I knew what they're for; although I haven't won one yet.

More savvy ninjas will only roll need on the last boss on stuff they don't need.

The thing to remember is that none of this is enforceable, like Mook said. If you report a ninja, Blizzard will laugh at you. That's actually a good thing because like I said, some people think the rules are only there to benefit tanks and healers. If you're DPS and the tank roles on DPS gear, don't be afraid to roll on tank gear for your offspec (or whatever the case may be). You can't report him, but he also can't report you. You can protect yourself without fear of the game rules being a weapon against you.

yeah.. frozen orbs on my server are going for 5s more in AH than I can get from a vendor. So I just drop them off at a vendor.

I just roll "disenchant" on everything.

If I don't need it, DE or greed. If I do need it for the spec I'm not running, ask or greed, if I need it for the spec I'm running, need.

If I don't see someone immediately using something they needed on (barring stuff like level locked items, or saying it's for their offspec), they go on my ignore list.

I suppose I am fortunate and have 3 characters who can use absolutely nothing from any 5 man in the game except a Battered Hilt, which is a curious thing, because everyone simply needs it whether they can use it, have used it, or will use it in every random I've ever done. In fact, the last time I saw one drop, the Holy Paladin, Arms Warrior, Feral Druid, and Warlock were wielding some variant of the Quest Rewards and all 4 needed.

Many upgrades aren't better than what one already had until after being gemmed/enchanted, so people don't equip stuff immediately after winning it.

I can't say I'm surprised. The damn thing sells for so much that people have probably started needing on it regardless since there's generally one in every group that will need on it hoping people will roll "greed".

The sad thing is that except for the Caster Hammer and Feral Mace, most of the items can be replaced with ToC25 loot.

I can understand that. (I won't ***** out a death knight that's not swapping his weapon until he runeforges it, for example - I know that position. I've won a weapon and said "I won't hold up the group while I runeforge this, so I'll hang on to my current tanking club until we finish") Me, personally, though, at the level I play at (mid-70s), I'm not grabbing stuff unless it's an upgrade even with enchants factored, because I'm too cheap to buy enchants for stuff that will be replaced.

The majority of players don't get into 25 mans very often.

On my low population RP Server, there were at least 100 full clears of ToC25 this weekend. 38 of the Alliance Side clears were PUGs. And let me stress my Alliance RP Server SUCKS.

You know, I wouldn't play there if I hadn't been playing with most of the people in my Alliance guild for a very, very long time. And, to be honest, it's a lot less stress than my Horde Guild. (I'll be sidelined this week for failing to break 10k on Festergut, most likely.)

It did have it's interesting perks coming from the community of people there. I still have a couple of characters there that I log into every now and then. I transferred my primary characters off the server when my long time guild broke up awhile back. I hear some of them went on to form a raid guild called Full Circle or something close to that.

We don't have that on ours, to my knowledge.
