Upon further reflection, I'm taking a chance and downloading it. IGN is telling us how to do it. The worst that will happen is that the DLC stuff will be invalidated(though, I'm not even sure they'll be able to do that since some people got the game legitimately early from stores breaking street dates or getting their shipments early and I'm not sure there is any way to invalidate something after it has already been downloaded to the hard drive).

So I picked up the Gamestop pre-order stuff, the Dr. Pepper promo items and the Incisor Sniper Rifle(which is pretty much a PC only item since you can only get it with the digital deluxe version). The Collector Armor and rifle will come with my collector's edition, I already have the Blood Dragon Armor from Dragon Age, I'll be getting the Cerberus network card with any version and I pre-ordered from EA, so I'll get the Inferno Armor that way.

EDIT:

Awww, they took them down. Brother only managed to grabbed the Collector's Armor and Weapon before they went down.

I couldn't resist. I bought a new 360 in order to get this game, along with Forza 3. I can't wait!

It will all be hacked soon enough, giving every PC player all the special content anyway.

So would I still be screwing myself in the foot if I imported my sniper from the first game?

Talk about a game not designed around a class option they give you. Sheesh.

I played an Infiltrator (sniper) through part two and absolutely raped faces.

Your question is irrelevant, though. You can choose a new class when you begin the game, even when importing a character.

If you want to snipe, you pretty much have to go Infiltrator. You gain tactical cloak (temporary invisibility) as well as a sort of bullet-time effect that lasts a few seconds when you first bring up your snipe scope.

I dunno...the Sniper Rifle was a huge boon on Insanity difficulty. Nothing like sniping turrets or Colossi without them being able to retaliate.

Soldiers can also snipe, and they get an ability that acts similar to the bullet-time, except it also adds to their damage output.

Infiltrators also get access to Submachine guns and both pistol types, so...

Both pistol types?

Heavy Weapon, SMG, Heavy Pistol and Sniper rifle - with an option to learn assault rifle/shotgun later in the game. Is there a type of pistol I don't know about?

When I first started hearing about the game and the weapon types, I heard Heavy Pistols and assumed there were Light Pistols as well. Maybe he's thinking the same thing? But yeah, everyone can use Heavy Weapons, Heavy Pistols and SMGs. Vanguards get Shotguns, Infiltrators get Sniper Rifles and Soldiers get every weapon.

I've got a question about the bonus talent you get later, Lenas...you say you can learn Assault Rifle/Shotgun later in the game, is that your only choice for the bonus talent or can you choose something else?

I was under the impression there was Heavy Pistol and Machine Pistol?

@Raltar
I got three choices. I could spec into a new type of weapon, or I could choose a special sniper rifle. I went with the new rifle.

Later in the game, you're also able to learn a single new ability - any of the ones that are unlocked via "loyalty" quests. I ended up taking Warp Ammo so I could be prepared for all types of situations.

Does that choice carry over into a new game?

I would assume. Your level and other abilities carry over into a New Game+, don't see why that wouldn't.

If you decide you don't like the ability you got from a teammate, you can always pay 5000 element zero to have it changed back in your lab.

Right now, as a Vanguard in ME2, I've got the following weapons equipped:

Heavy Weapon (Rocket launcher)
Hand Cannon (Heavy Pistol)
Machine Pistol (SMG)
Shotgun
Sniper Rifle (I took this with my "bonus weapon skill" choice. It was btwn this and Assault Rifles, or a heavy shotgun with a recoil that, according to the description, would break a normal person's wrist. There might have been one other choice, too.)

I also took Barrier as my "loyalty" bonus skill, but I'll probably spec out of that at some point. But it's a nice extra layer of protection for when I use Charge. Which, BTW...charge is frakin' awesome! When you put 4 points into a skill, you can pick between 2 modified versions of it. I picked "Heavy Charge" which increases it's dmg and creates a "bullet time" slow down when I come out of it. It's great because they get the full charge impact, which sends them flying in slow motion, then I can hit them with 2-3 shotgun blasts before they land. Good times!

The other version that you can choose does less dmg, but increases the blast radius so your charge can impact multiple enemies.

Spoiler:
Tali's special power Energy Drain...what does it do? I'm trying to figure if I want an extra power or if I'm going to focus on maxing Shepard's normal powers.

Drains enemy shields and adds them to yours, doesn't it?

I dunno since I haven't gotten my hands on the game yet. I'm just planning ahead. If that is the case, it sounds like a good power to have.

Other than carrying over choices that you made from the first, is there anything else that I would miss out on if I didn't import a save from ME1?

edit: Also, can you import the same save more than once? Like if you import your old game as an Infiltrator, could you also import it as an engineer?

Yes. You get a pretty significant head start if you import an ME1 save file:

At level 60, with a rich character with maxed out guns, it's 150,000 credits (100,000 for rich, 50k for getting 60, 30k for getting 50, 20k at 39), starting at level 5 (3 if 50, and 2 at 39), and 10,000 of every type of mineral (for 60, 5k for 50, 2.5k at 39), along with the fact that it treats all those quests and everything you did as complete, so they'll affect the story, instead of it assuming you rushed the plot and only have the McBigLargeHuge decisions affecting it.

You can import the same save more than once.

Note that 39 is just the other save I saw loaded. It may range lower.

Ah ok, I just never finished the original more than once. Hmm...I think my ME1 guys is 49 tho. I should at least grind out 1 more level.

Thanks.

You'll have to grind out another level, and another ending. You can only import saves that have beaten the game.

You may also get more funding from Cerberus if you're a higher level import. I'd have to go farther to make sure, but it's something to be aware of.

For the record, I had the Rich achievement, and imported a level 50 character, and I started with 100k credits. I don't think they stack.
