Sure. Since they're not overtly racist, you have to assign them code words to show that they are in fact, racist.

I could say I had fried chicken for lunch, and that's a code word for "I beat up some blacks". And I couldn't prove that I wasn't out roustin up some homeless negros, because you can't disprove a negative.

So, I'm tagged as a racist. When in reality, I was just enjoyin me some tasty fried chicken.

Well, Lee Atwater pretty much laid out what I'm talking about. It was a strategy he used successfully, and it was the same strategy the Republican party has been using since.

Lee Atwater wrote:
"You start out in 1954 by saying, “Nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968 you can’t say “nigger”—that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states’ rights and all that stuff. You’re getting so abstract now [that] you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites."

I believe the new iteration is birth certificates and socialism. YMMV.

This just shows that it's complete nonsense. It's basically saying "anything that might negatively affect a certain group is racist regardless of its merits".

By this logic I could just as easily say that the reverse of anything Atwater is talking about is racist against Whites because it will hurt them more than blacks. It's just an attempt to squash debate by shouting RACIST!! at anything one side doesn't like.

And the sad thing is, it's been less than a year. We have The Chosen One's entire presidency to go through with this crap. Anything that the right, or hell left, middle, up, down, whatever, says that is negative about The Chosen One or disagrees, some lib somewhere is going to try to tie race into it.

My question is... How can there still be racism? We elected a black man president ffs.

Granted, I dislike the disingenuous, lying, ignorant ****, but still. He's black, and he's president.

Death threats against the President have increased 400% since he got into office. Racism is not dead, and we are not yet in a post-racial world. We did elect a black president, and that was a very important step in that direction. But that election increased the fervor of racism in the country, too. It was a sign to racists that their outlook was slipping, and that's not easy to swallow.

A CNN source with very close ties to the U.S. Secret Service confirmed to me today that threats on the life of the president of the United States have now risen by as much as 400 percent since his inauguration, 400 percent death threats against Barack Obama — quote — “in this environment” go far beyond anything the Secret Service has seen with any other president.

He goes on to show the man with the AR15 at the Presidential event in Phoenix. That man said he was prepared to used armed force against the Obama administration. That same man was at a church service in which the preacher preached the following -

Pastor Steven Anderson, Faithful Word Baptist Church wrote:
Tonight, I want to preach this sermon. And you have probably never heard a sermon like this before. Actually, you probably have if you have been coming to church here for a while. But you know what? Here is my sermon, why I hate Barack Obama. That’s my sermon tonight, because Barack Obama is coming to town tomorrow morning.

Barack Obama is coming to town. And he is going to be here tomorrow morning. Who knew that he was coming to town? I didn’t know. I just found out recently with his health care and everything like this.

And I’m going to tell you something. I hate Barack Obama. You say, well, you just mean you don’t like what he stands for. No, I hate the person. Oh, you mean you just don’t like his policies. No, I hate him.

That preacher went on to say that he wanted to see Obama die that night.

Quote:
What goes around comes around. You love violence. You hate that which is right. You love to harm others. You love to hurt or kill the unborn or the innocent or the righteous. He is saying, God is going to bring that upon your own head, because whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Now, turn back to Psalm 58 and let me ask you this question. Why should Barack Obama melt like a snail? Why should Barack Obama die like the untimely birth of a woman? Why should his children be fatherless and his wife a widow, as we read in this passage?

Well, I will tell you why. Because, since Barack Obama thinks it is OK to use a salty solution, right, to abort the unborn, because that’s how abortions are done, my friend, using salt — and I would like to see Barack Obama melt like a snail tonight.

How do the total numbers compare against previous Presidents? What are we looking at from an absolute standpoint?

I did however find this, which I thought was interesting: http://www.zombietime.com/zomblog/?p=621

Where did you find this out? 400% compared to what? To against Bush? To the number against him before the election?

DE:

400% from when he was just a candidate to when he was sworn in, based upon the language of the quote.

There is nothing that indicates the current level of above historic numbers for other presidents, only that the increase from one state to another is high.

I would think that a disproportionate amount of death threats would occur against any president in the first six months to a year of their time in office. Saying they've risen 400% without any further data leaves a very vague and unverifiable number out there.

Not that I doubt he gets more than previous presidents may have, but without further numbers it's just a nebulous statistic.

I mean, I could say I was hit by a car infinity more times this year than the rest of my life put together, but those percentages mean nothing without context.

I would be surprised if there was any officially released data on the number of death threats that a President receives. I also would be surprised if the Secret Service had ever revealed their criteria for categorizing something as a death threat. 400% sure does sound like a lot, doesn't it? Of course, that would be the point. I suspect that if he has received more death threats than any previous President to this point in his term, or especially overall, that would have been the statement, as it would be the more shocking. So we have to take that very round and shocking looking 400% with a grain of salt. The percentage of increase may be the highest ever, but if it only brings a President from historically low levels to average levels, say, that's no longer exciting, and would be why that data was neglected.

So out of the % increase, they are all because Obama is black?

While I'm pretty sure there hasn't been a study done on it, I wonder how high of a % of death threats against GW were because he is Christian. Or against Clinton because he was an adulterer. Or against Carter because he's a Southerner.

Seems like it's only an issue because of Obamas race, rather then race being the actual issue.

It's difficult to find the numbers to be a comparison, and I agree, I misunderstood the quote. That being said, that kind of an increase in death threats is pretty staggering.

Do you guys feel that race has *nothing* to do with the fervent opposition to the President?

I don't think anyone has ever said that race has nothing to do with it. I'm very, very, very sure that everyone on the conservative side(this board mind you) believes that there are true blue racists out there that don't like him being president just because he is black. Just like I'm very, very, very sure that people who voted for him just because he is black aren't much better.

There's a lot of evidence that the people most fervently opposed to the president are basing their opposition in large part on his race. I saw an ton of signs during the tea party protest of millions-that-were-really-thousands that were just overtly racist. They had him dressed as a witch doctor, compared him to a monkey, told him to take his arrogant wife back to Kenya - it was pretty awful, actually.
