Anyone else still playing?
Went to a sealed pre-release this weekend and drafted this: Image

Completely worthless. Yes, it will most likely be awesome when Rise of the Eldrazi comes out, but that set is so full that seals and drafts will only contain that set and not WW, right? Which means I got a useless card.....

Anyone going to release parties this weekend?

Haven't played with actual cards in a rather long time. Last bit I played of any stripe was the Xbox arcade one a few months ago.

As to the worth of the card you got, while it may not be all that valuable for what you were doing, if you plan to play in other tournaments or just friendly games, that's another thing.

I've honestly only played this game once. And I did it because a girl asked me to join and wanted to tutor me one on one. The only thing I remember are the words "mana" and "tapping."

I have a large colllection of World of Warcraft: The Card Game cards though and enjoy playing it. I hear it is very similar to MTG except you can never be "land locked."

Edit: Oh... and the only card I know about is "The Orb of Chaos" and the legend that it was used in a tournament where the kid ripped it into confetti and dropped it, and it was ruled as a legal move.

I have one deck remaining. I haven't played in years.

Numbuk, I remember hearing the same legend about the Chaos Orb.

I think quite a few people heard about that, including WoTC.

I... keep up with the game more than play it. One of the best friends of a friend of mine owns a hobby shop and is heavily involved in the game as a result, and plays some with my friend. Then my friend gets all into it and it translates over to playing online with a free program. I really do need more than one current deck, though..

I'm not as happy with the game as I used to be, at least from a deckbuilding perspective. Sets nowadays seem so... partitioned. "This is a card for the elf deck, and here is the one for a merfolk deck of doom". To me at least, there doesn't seem to be nearly as many open-ended cards. Perhaps this is just a result of more focused card design, but it makes deck building feel a bit more constricted.

Then my friend loves the Legacy format so much, where I could use 8972307482342 cards to build decks with... and none of my fun decks are anywhere near competitive. I remember a time when you could build fun decks and not do horribly with them! But alas, this is not meant to be. Perhaps this is just because of Legacy's 8972307482342 cards available, which results in a 60 card deck of awesome synergy the likes of which simply could not be had when I was really into the game back during the Mirage and Tempest blocks. Maybe I need to try out T2 more... and hope I can come up with decks that don't match the set designers' clearly laid out plans.

Feels all wrong having 90% of your deck spelled out for you. Using other peoples' decks makes me feel like I'm cheating. :p

Definitely.

I like sitting at home with my husband and building random decks. I started playing a decade ago then put it down for a few years and just picked it back up. Things have changed! Its still fun though.
Wish more of ya'll were into it.

Played this for a long time when I had a roommate that was extremely into it, he would buy boxes and we would have draft games.

Eventually quit because it is just too expensive. I still play the game on Xbox Live occasionally (helps having a flat fee for all the cards. :)

I've gotten into, and out of, MTG about a half-dozen times. My most recent attempt failed utterly because I'm so neurotic about having all the cards that I simply cannot find the money, room, time, etc to keep up with it. The sheer number of cards is now so overwhelming to me that I can't bring myself to even want to try.

On the other hand, downloading images and printing them out on cardstock to make "proxy decks" allows me to dabble without the obsession side-effect.

I just heard about proxy decks this weekend...it had never occurred to me to do that. Somehow it seems like cheating, but at the same time...how cool! I want to make a super mill deck with a bunch of mind funerals and a millstone and stuff.

Millstone + Capsize + blue with discard spells = fun.

I don't know for sure how many thousands of cards I really have. Rough guess would be 18-20K. I plaued and collected a lot from '95 to '02, but all they are doing right now is sitting on shelves in my basement storage area.

Elmo had (may still have???) a millstone deck he called the Anti-deck deck. It was geared towards excelling against any opponent that may be using a deck of Magic cards. Pretty damn efficient.

Me, the only deck I have left is a five color deck that feature all of the dragons from 2 particular sets, (Don't remember which)

Dromar, Oros, Treva, Intet, Rith, Numot, Darigaaz, Vorosh, Crosis, Teneb

Is capable of having one of these bad boys out by the second or third turn (All three color, 6 total casting cost)

Pretty decent deck for five colors using only basic lands and land enchantments for mana.

I recall I also took pride at the time of building the deck as I think I had 18 islands in the deck, but none of them had the same artwork (which is nothing now, but fun at the time, everything from Alpha and Beta cards to the tutorial deck cards).

I have yet to have a multi-color deck be reliable in the mana department. Sure there "could" be send and third turn miracles, but the chances of getting the set up you need were too low, unless you proxy in restricted cards.

That changed a lot in Ravnica block, another multicolored theme set (prior being Invasion block). It was VEEEEEERY odd in Ravnica time to see a monocolored deck

There has been a lot released since I played regularly. When I was playing, it was great, as I would play in a Monday night tournament at one shop, a Friday night tournament at a second shop and once every other Saturday at a third shop.

There are no really close shops where i am now. There are a number of tournaments in Atlanta, but everything is 15+ miles and requires fighting Atlanta traffic.

I think Odyssey was the last block I played much at all.

I got a hankering to give it another shot (I flirted with it years ago), and Phe was open to giving it a go. Seeing some ads with Ravnica artwork is, I think, what piqued my interest.

We picked up a couple of "intro decks" at Target last night and played through thrice. We had fun, though I soundly defeated Phe's flying deck with my vampires every time. :)

Sweet action. Wish we could all get together and play!

Uinan I like to play on xbox too but not live...I play against the computer. Nitefox actually bought me "Thoughts of Wind" from Wal-mart when it came out. Its my favorite deck.

I played the PC version up until it stopped working on my computer.

Now if I get a hankering, I play Legends of Norrath.

my cards were from years ago. None were tournament legal; the cards were not worth what was paid for them (including my Lord of The Pit (summon demon)); I had no one to play with; and I had a choice.. let them take up more space as I try and pack for an impending move, or throw the crap away.

So they went into the can.

We went through all of our old cards, including duplicates after making play sets and are donating them to some boys from our church.
Don't you have any little kids around you that want your old stuff??
