I would say it's better to be lucky, because good is dependent on your luck. The luck of your genes and environment makes you either good or bad at what you do. I'll use this to rate myself in terms of luck. (I realize I'm interpreting this thread differently than most)

My family - Lucky. have a great one, very supportive.
Friends - Unlucky. Currently I have a poor social life, partly because my friends are all far away.
Intelligence - Lucky. Far above average
Motivation - Unlucky. I'm naturally quite lazy
Social Skills - Unlucky... other people are more sociable and better at making friends than me
Looks and Fitness - Neither... about average for my age
Employment - Lucky. Make more than most my age, with good benefits
Manic Depressive - Very unlucky. Somehow I managed to fall into the bottom 2% here... right now experiencing the latter... it's not fun

I chose "good", because as a Christian I do not believe "luck" exists in the way it is thought of nowadays. Nothing happens that God does not allow, and it seems to me that luck has nothing to do with it.

I'd rather be skilled than rely on random chance (which is the closest thing to Luck that I can fully believe in).

I choose "good", as in to mean either skilled or morally good. There is no such thing as being "lucky" if you're skilled. If you're not, "lucky" is just a statistical anomoly than can fail you at any time.

Lucky. (Assuming I believed in Luck, which I don't.)

Good is a choice, but ultimately, nothing that happens to you is within your control. You can only try to influence things. If you're lucky, everything goes your way regardless of whether you're good. If you're good, you can still fail.

Good, I can more often influence outcomes than by sheer luck which may once in a great while prove better than being above proficient.

Lucky. I'm good at a lot of things, none of which have particularly worked out well for me. But, as far as luck goes, I frequently seem to be in the right place at the right time.

Of course, that could be because I'm good, and people want to have me around while looking to fill a position, etc., but, hey, I didn't makeup the poll.

With good, you can make your own 'luck'.

Of course this only applies to things that generally require some sort of skill or aptitude, such as sports and games.

If I'm buying Lottery tickets, give me the "Luck" please. There is no such thing as being good at that....

To expand on this a bit, it seems to me that all of the important things in life center around being lucky rather than good.

You can be good at dating but are lucky to find the one.

You can be a good sibling, daughter or son but you are lucky to have your family.

You were lucky to be born in a free nation (unless you're Canadian).

You can be a good friend but you are lucky to have good ones.

Being "good" is a skillset or whatever. Luck is universal. Luck (if you believe in such a thing) can carry you through what the other guy is good at, but it also applies to other things, too.

Essentially. If you believe in rigid determinism, there isn't much room for free will. If Newtonian mechanics were still the best conceptualization of the universe, the whole history of existence could be considered nothing but the most elaborate and lengthy trick pool shot of all time.

That assumes there is a 1 to 1 correlation that God, or whatever, is not aware of all the potential outcomes of any given decision, or string of decisions, and rather than deny 1 choice out of 2, merely disallows one choice out of hundreds.

My statement assumes an omnipotent and omniscient God.
