Or better yet, open your eyes and unplug your ears and actually think, instead of feel.

*edit* Let me see if I can help the skeptics. Let's say that in company "A" there are 4 infantrymen, A, B, C, and D. A is openly homosexual. One day after showering, C and D start giving the business to B, "Hey I noticed A was checking you out in the showers. You not out of the closet yet?" and such teasing. A few days later out on patrol the company has to jump for cover, and A jumps in the same cover as B. Back at the barracks, more teasing. "Oh yeah, B is A's b**** now." etc etc.

How is B likely to feel? How does that foster unit cohesion? There are many ways this could end up playing out, and most are negative to the proper functioning of the company.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Apparently you are not familiar with male sports... This conversation plays out 100,000 times a day in every high school in the country. Or is your argument that the certainty of A's homosexuality somehow magnifies the events in a way that ambiguity does not?

I'm sorry, but I cannot find the poll in the Military Times. As such, I will simply have to conclude that the very biased, very agenda driven, and very much invested in lying website you linked fabricated the story.

Go easier on him?? Oh boy do you have your priorities mixed up. How the hell did you get to be a mod anyway?
Someone throws my son's (SON---stillborn, not miscarried) death in my face in casual debate to prove a point and you say go easy on him because I called him a prick for doing so?
Wow. I'm gone.

Kate, what I said wasn't a moderator comment, and he didn't throw it in your face. It was a logical statement, and he apologized in advance because he knew it was still a difficult subject for you. There is a parallel, which was his point. I know there's a parallel because i have been in both situations.

I'm sorry this upsets you, but it was a valid point. I think your emotional reaction to it, while normal and understandable, underlines this even more.

And I think we should lock this thread now, because it just became scorched earth.

LadyKate, if you read this I want to apologize. Had I known such a thing was going to happen, I'd never have started this thread. I am really sorry.

Seriously. What is the big deal with asking someone not to talk about their sexual orientation?
So soldiers for hundreds of years have bonded over stories of scoring chicks. So some guy can't tell his stories of scoring other dudes. Big deal! Its the military. Suck it up and deal with it. Everyone makes sacrifices. Also, believe it or not, not every soldier feels the need to discuss who they ****** last night.

If its more important to talk about your sex life in public than it is to protect our country than you don't need to be in the military to begin with.

Really? And I'm gonna apologize for this in advance, because it's harsh, but I want you to get the point. Remember your rant a while back about your miscarriage, and how it was killing you to put on a facade and pretend how it wasn't killing you? Now do that ALL the time, for years on end while you're in the service. Same thing.

I'm just going to say this once. Do not, ever, bring up the death of our son like this again. Understand? Never.

When I lost my baby, I was devastated. Putting on a strong face was hard, sometimes impossible.

But hiding who and what I was for over a decade...part of that time even from myself...was an ever escalating gnawing from within at my soul, which over time leaves one as nothing but a severely depressed shell. This was far more difficult.

I can empathize with Kate, but Aizle's post was simultaneously apologetic, respectful, and logical. It was also an understatement. You don't know the emotional cost of hiding who you are in the closet unless you've done it.

I'm sorry that that hurts.

This thread has made a turn down a path it will not recover from, so is now locked.
