I woke up to a loud thumping noise just a bit ago..

I had put a load of clothes in to wash before going to bed and now I sit watching the washer spin. It's not doing so good.. Dang it, just when I thought I would be getting ahead. It is a whirlpool duet front loader. It has an error code that I looked up on the Internet and I thought I might have fixed it.. A sock was caught in the water filter. But, no, can't be that easy. It's making a horrible noise when it trys to get to high spin..I have sat on it trying to see if it was unbalanced and the extra weight would help, but no luck :(

now.. Do I just buy a new one, or try to get this one fixed. It's about 5-6 years old I think. My parents gave the set to me when they got a new set.

Sucks.. My feet are wet from trying to balance my wet laundry..

Maybe I could do that if I lived in Cali, Lenas, but in the frozen, godforsaken, whoville, I can't manage that :P

Hmm sitting on it does seem to be helping when I cut the spin to medium, I need to at least get these clothes done. Back to playing Zelda while I wait to see if the washer will do me this one last favor.

Did you say your feet were wet from balancing laundry?

At this point in time..Lenas has the best advice. Why panic? Right?

I was playing phantom hourglass on my DS, Foamy :)

Phantom Hourglass was definately cool. The Ocean Temple concept got really old, though. Got quite tired of rehashing the same floors over and over again.

Didn't take away too much from the game though. Still awesome.

And as far as Lenas' suggestion,

Ditto on that. I heard the same elsewhere.

Was it a moose trying to get in the house?

All kidding aside though, just relax and call Sears. They can get a tech out there and see what the problem is. A nice washer is worth fixing, as long as its not more than buying a new one.

Also, Lenas has solid advice as well. ;)

Whirlpool sucks. That being said, find out how much it is going to cost you to fix it and go from there.

We had a thumping washer a while back, the bearing for the drum had gone which cause it to be loose. We could wobble the drum around inside the unit when it wasn't running. Unfortunately the way it was put together the whole washer had to be dismantled to check it out and the replacement part was on the whole drum assembly not separate. It turned out the estimate was going be $400-500 to diagnose and fix. We ended up going with a new one since it was 8 years old already.

My Whirlpool Washer and Dryer set, just passed 14 years of use and neither needing repairs. They fail to meet my definition of "suck" ($650 for the pair and still working). As a bonus they are the over sized pair so we can do the extra large comforters. To each his own I guess.

This was it, Rane, too expensive to fix, so I went out and bought a cheap one to get me by till I sell my house.
