I used to be proud to be a member of the Glade, even in a small role. I've thought the community was unique compared to other online forums & communities I've been apart of online. I liked how in the beginning, all of us had a very common bond. It was like we were a big group of friends who got together to talk about anything & everything. I'd encourage many friends to read threads here.

Over the years, some people started to taking more delight in trying to prove other people wrong, a constant game of one ups-manship. Always trying to figure out how to look smarter, make some one look stupid, or try to belittle their opinions. It's all it is, one never ending dick measuring contest at the expense of other people. It took the recent events and news to remind me, that all of you are real people, most of you I believe are incredibly kind, good hearted people. I think that people here take that for granted.

In the SCA, among the fighters, we commonly have a saying or what not, that the people we fight with, are like our toys. If you keep breaking your toys, all of the sudden you quickly find yourself with nothing to play with. One by one, our small little community shrinks. Sometimes they are driven away, sometimes they just move on, and other times they are tragically taken. I feel the Glade becomes lesser, each time some one leaves us.

Anyway, just the ramblings of a random nobody.

What the ****!

So now we're honestly proposing splitting Hellfire into two boards, one of which won't be moderated? Wasn't that the original intent and purpose of Rants? Do your **** jobs! More importantly, grow a **** spine! This is exactly why several months ago, I was against the idea of putting mods into place to begin with. What happened? We insisted on a panel of four or five mods from different political ideals who have to agree in committee on something with the two board admins before anything gets done. Thus ensuring that nothing gets done, and problems don't get solved, before someone blows a gasket.

That's exactly what happened, both with Monty and with LadyKate.

With Monty, people lost any faith that the moderators were ever going to enforce the rules, and went right back to their regularly scheduled shit-flinging. Rather than being worried about a handful of people flipping out over Monty getting hit with a suspension or a ban (a handful of people who, you'll notice, weren't bothering to talk Monty down from the ledge before he jumped), if the mods had just taken some kind of action on the reports that were coming originally (back when the Glade was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt), you wouldn't have had a whole pile of reports coming in about one or two threads.

As for LadyKate, God **** love her. I think she's great. In the thread where she went apeshit and flipped over the table, she was running off at the mouth about something she knew nothing about. To her credit, she announced right from the start that she didn't understand. That's great. She was honest. She also made no attempt to try to understand. That's not great. She acted stupid. She asked for people to explain to her why it was such a big deal, and then made no effort to grasp the idea. She continued to spout off the same ignorant bullshit. I understand some of you agree that it's no big deal, and that gays should shut up and go back in the closet where they belong. So let me explain something that you all missed. Aizle was not taking a cheap shot at her. Aizle was not being malicious. Kate got upset. That's understandable. That's forgivable. It doesn't make her right. More importantly, it doesn't make you right. Aizle used what is time-tested as a valid and effective teaching method. He took the topic, and phrased it in a way that has some relevance to LK's life so that she could understand. Instead, LK willfully chose to not understand, because she would rather flap her jaw on a topic she doesn't know a goddamn thing about.

To top it off, when another mother who'd experienced the same thing came in, LK fired off some bullshit, "It's different! Losing my child hurt more! Mine was stillborn, and yours was just a miscarriage!" Like a parent losing a child somehow magically suffers less when it's a miscarriage, a car accident, or death in the military? But I understand where Kate is coming from. She's hurt. She honestly believes that nobody has ever felt the way she feels, and mostly that's because it's her pain. She's lashing out because she's hurting more than she's ever hurt in her life. What's everybody else's excuse? What LK threw at Taly was more offensive and hurtful by orders of magnitude than Aizle's post. Where's that righteous indignation, the, "What a monster! Don't you dare say anything about a mother's dead baby!" fury now? I thought it was wrong and morally offensive to use someone's grief over losing a baby to take a cheap shot? Aizle didn't do that, LadyKate actually did. Where is your moral outrage now, you ignorant, hypocritical, self-absorbed ****?

While I'm on the subject, since the admins and the mods gave us the impression that they were very inconvenienced by the high volume of reports they experienced on whatever day last week, I would just like to point out that I have Monty on ignore. Yes, I went out of my way to click "display this post" and read some of the brainless garbage that I have been blissfully unaware of since sometime during Glade 3.0 in order to click the "report this post" button. I feel absolutely no remorse whatsoever. For six months, you have come into threads with your red text (or blue, for the special one) pretending to be a sage voice of wisdom spreading sunshine and rainbows, and enlightening us all about how the rules work and their proper implementation, maybe issuing an unofficial warning that means absolutely jack ****, and then frittering off like everything is fine and you've done Good Work. I was against moderation from the start, because I knew you'd do absolutely nothing. I gave you the opportunity to prove me wrong. You haven't done it. Instead, you have inconvenienced me, and everyone else, by making up rules for the sake of having rules. Do your **** job. Furthermore, if you are all going to bugger out on the task, do me a favor. Don't insult my intelligence by creating some new "Heckfire" board so that you can pretend you're actually doing something.

By the way, since this was in General, in the future I would ban Coro for that post, on top of the idiotic reporting he's doing in here now.

Ive moved it but if you want a ban Coro, just ask.

Eh, on the other hand, he's not wrong.

Plus, what precedent would you be setting for banning him for that post, which is far and away well below the threshold of a number of other posters' body of work?

No precedent is needed anymore.

All this would have made a lot more sense if Aizle had actually been correct in the first place.

The thread was specifically about gays in the military. While the author, as is fairly typical for legal officers, doesn't apparently know his *** from a hole in the ground about the military outside of how the UCMJ works, he did have one thing correct:

If you signed up, and you're gay, you know the policy is DADT. It's your own damn fault you have to stay in the closet. Whether the policy is right or wrong, good or bad, you brought it on yourself, so however painful being in the clost might be.. **** deal with it, or ETS after your term.

It's not a reason the policy should be changed. The military is there to fight and win wars. If the policy is a net negative in that regard it should be ended, if a positive, retained. How gay people feel about it is irrelevant.

In this forum you can post something like that, in the General forum you can not, and never have been able to as far as I know.

So Coro is catching **** for posting his thoughts and opinions? Didn't belong in General agreed but that is a very (thoughtful is the wrong word) thoroughly thought out post.

Which I am not agreeing or disagreeing with. (Can I make this flash somehow?)

It is his opinion and I'd like to know if we are allowed to express our opinions of situations and individuals freely in the rechristened Hellfire?

So you're saying I should ban him?

Hellfire is now less strict than other areas. I expect there to be some adjustment time. Heckfire is available for more moderated discussions.

Fair enough. What Aizle said wasn't inflammatory or really *wrong*. Insensitive? Perhaps. Bad timing? Perhaps that also.

Look, let's have a recap here:

Monty generates a who bunch of reports by or about him.

Monty gets suspended

The "gays in the military" thread starts

Aizle makes his point

LK gets upset

Taly tries to assuage her, it backfires

Either one of these events is just another forum blowup on its own, but together they somehow created the impression there were major problems here.

Now, what really baffles me is how anyone got the idea that the forum needed to be locked, or that everyone needed time off, and most odd was the idea that Amdee's tragic passing had anything to do with Hellfire. Don't get me wrong, I'm very sad, especially for Kaffis and have no desire to minimize it, but I just don't see any link.

I think locking this forum was uncalled for, and actually made it appear that there were more problems here than there really are.

Moreover, the nature of this thread when it was in General didn't really invite discussion, and now there's a new forum, with strict rules and this one apparently has none again. All this in the space of an hour or so today.

I don't think either is really necessary. I saw nothing wrong with the moderation or ruleset in here. I think this has been a series of unfortunate events, and it's being blown out of proportion.

As I said I'm making an exception because it was a hellfire based thread that happened to be in General. Just know if people get out of line outside here though, it's probably ending in a ban.

But since we're in Hellfire...

So you are against moderation yet you spam the report button like Michael J Fox?

Oh please. You're the type to sit in the background and criticize everyone else, framing things as coarsely as possible to give the illusion of 'edgy'. Let me guess, you tell it like it is right? Ready to pounce on any perceived missteps from the safety of a position of utter lack of responsibility while telling people to "do your job". This is not my job.
