People who think they can just take kids when they want SHOULD fear for their lives when they are caught.

More bad news Beryllin. These people have to be mentally deficient.

Which means that if Bery truly does have exonerating evidence it's going to be that these people were coerced into doing this by human traffikers through some sort of threat. I can see that happening. That would explain their fear for their lives as well; human traffikers are not nice people, and might be willing to try to kill them if they talk, or be threatening someone else. As the opinion piece above noted, human traffiking is ramapnt in Haiti. I can see naive missionaries being maneuvered into a position where they did something like this, maybe even did a bad job on purpose to get caught.

Does that exonerate them? If it's something along these lines, to a large degree, yes. However, they've still caused an uproar, and if this is actually true they should have revealed it as soon as it caught media attention. They may fear for themselves or someone else but involvement, with human traffikers means they'll be doing that until they're caught anyhow; they're loose ends. There are thousands of Marines in Haiti. If this conjecture of mine is accurate, they should have gone straight to a Marine officer and told him what was happening.

I could be wrong but it sounds like he was engaged after the legal woes began:

Leave my missionary friend alone!

Image

Given the level of emotion being shown about this issue, this image popped in mind. Cruel? Probably someone may think so ... but given his "I don't care about you guys" attitude I don't think it matters a whit to Ber, and I found it humorous.

No it does not. Frankly, justice would be to find some of you in the same position that the missionaries there face now, and I struggle to not actually wish that on a few of you. *shrug*

That may not seem very Christian of me, but David prayed that God would punish his opponents, so.....

David was Jewish. He is not a good Christian role model.

In some ways he was not, but he is described as a man after God's own heart. He made mistakes, but the Psalms records his supplications to God concerning his opponents.

You just touched on my opinion of your attitude in this thread exactly.

Honor all men. Love the brotherhood ... Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work ... Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's ...

etc.

I guess that only applies to others though, you seem to have decided you don't need to follow such philosophies. I wonder if that's why DE said you should consider yourself a hypocrite if you lecture others on how to behave as a Christian should?

Quite so. Add to that that we will suffer at the hands of godless men. Joseph suffered years in jail as an innocent man, because he refused to participate in sin.....

You're quite a prideful man, Ber, to compare yourself to Joseph... unless you're not comparing yourself to him, and then I don't know why you think your post is relevant.

And I KNOW you can't be comparing your friend to Joseph 'cause your friend wasn't spreading the word, he was taking Haitian children.

However you add it up, I'm outahere. My opinion of the idiots taking kids is known, my opinion of your behavior in the face of disagreement has been shared, and I feel I've sufficiently addressed your exaggerated feeling of being superior to others.

I'm not comparing myself to Joseph, merely pointing out that Christians like DE etc, and people like yourself, would be condemning Joseph as an attempted rapist were that situation to have happened in our times.

That's when he was officially engaged.

Like I said, it's conjecture, but it's the only way I can see that there might be some hidden part of the story that would cause them to fear for their lives. Maybe they were told to "engage" this particular guy if they ran into trouble.

Well, looks like Drew and 7 others are finally out of there, thank God. I and many others will continue to pray for the remaining two.

Nice to see CNN running a story on the same day about corrupt officials in Haiti, too. Though I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

*edit* Somehow, I suspected it would get really quiet here.

Why do you think that?

I have no idea if these people are criminals or not, and if so, whether they are malicious or not. However, I can fairly confidently say that they were not acting intelligently.

Anyway, I suspect strongly that it's good for everyone involved that these 7 were sent home.

BTW, I'm fairly pissed off at their conduct. Their stupidity led to a basic lockdown of children being evacuated from the country for emergency medical care, as I understand it. Several have died.

Interesting bias... are they corrupt because they detained these people, or because they let criminals go?

Or maybe because there are corrupt officials in Haiti?

I agree. It would be silly to bother blaming Haitian officials for detaining people who were illegally taking children across the border.

It's really quiet in here because I've been down this road already multiple times in this thread. Two things have become clear:

1) I'm getting really tired of going through all the trouble of writing out a reasoned, nuanced explanation of what I think and why, only to have you completely ignore it.

and

2) You've made it very clear that you have no respect whatsoever for anyone who disagrees with you on this (and many other) issues, even going so far as to question their basic human decency.

I see no reason to give you my input when you obviously place no value in it. So I guess that makes two of us who aren't surprised that it got really quiet in here.

Exactly.

Does any of this come as a surprise to you? None of it does to me. I'm not surprised, though I am vastly disappointed in a great number of people on this board. Let's see what we know:

1) The media never gets it wrong.

2) The media is never biased.

3) Gov't officials are never corrupt, ever, even in poor countries like Haiti.

4) The people involved were evangelical Christians, therefore the blame automatically rests on them because of points 1, 2, and 3, and because Christians (particularly the evangelical ones) are evil.

That about covers it.
