A hilarious read.

Australia, Leading the World in Sexual Equality

Apparently, women getting their doctorates are just doing it so they have an excuse to avoid settling down and starting a family.

Actually, I found the implication that Gen Y was bringing financial ruin upon itself by not having babies the more hilarious statement. So, the old folks pass a bunch of laws and entitlements that create a financial burden on their progeny instead of saving for their own retirement, and now it's their progeny's fault that they're not expanding the labor force as fast as their parents predicted?

To tell you the truth, most migrant families have no problems filling that gap... in other news they are starting to close the boarders and making it hard for immigration.. figures >.<

You know what I learned from PBS last week? At the turn of the (last) century, only Blacks and Whites were allowed to immigrate here, no Asians... not sure about Latinos.

Very interesting, if disappointing.

Its what I've mentioned a time or three. Our history is far from spotless. The good thing is we eventually recognize our mistakes and try to correct them. The bad thing is it usually takes way too long and is never enough for the victims and their survivors.

On the west coast immigration through Angel Island in San Francisco most definitely included Asians. Our border with Mexico was much more open at the time. I don't know about Ellis Island so much, but the San Francisco version, while not flawless, wasn't turning away the Japanese or Chinese at the turn of the 20th Century. Of course black and white immigration wasn't usually coming east to get to America.

I agree, Kaffis, baby boomers are used to "having things their way", and now that retirement looms it's everyone else's fault that they can't continue the life style they are used to?

I will be getting my PhD and hopefully having children too. But it is hilarious that someone can think that furthering your education could ever be a bad thing. Educated women are able to figure out how to do both, if they so choose.

Having one child that goes on to become a productive member of society is far better than a dozen who are on welfare and crime statistics.

Actually ... you'd be surprised how the data stacks up on this one.

I don't think we have a labor force problem with our unemployment rates.

Hah. Indeed. We have a taxpayer problem, though.

So, not only does Lydiaa have pressure from her mother to procreate ("Why haven't you found a nice boy to give me grandchildren yet?"), but also Kevin Ruud saying "It's yer patriotic duty to fund my retirement!!!!1!!!"

So what's worse? My 5 year old niece asks me to marry someone so she can have more cousins...Or the Chief Executive of the government wanting to me to help pad Social Security? :?

Yes, still waiting for that dude on the nice white 200sx to come and rescue me =P

Rudd isn't the best out there, but he's the best we've got atm. I'm still willing to put up with his comments (I believe it has a touch of truth regardless of intent) over the others who all have their heads so far up their arse they are starting to see sunshine.
