To live, or vacation.

What is it for you?

Me,
vacation would either be a beach resort (if I needed rest and relaxation) or an adventure vacation would be Europe (hiking and seeing as many castles as I can)

Live ?? Not so sure on this one. Job is big factor in this one and cost of housing.

Both would have to be a cabin in the woods near a fully stocked lake with no one else around except my dogs.

I <3 Cleveland. It has its pains and low points but something about an entire city as an underdog is appealing. Plus there are so many hidden gems, 3rd largest theatre district outside of NYC, top Orchestra ranked in the top 5 in the world, I want to say the 2nd best art museum in the US. Browns, Indians, Cavs (bleh). Rich history, gorgeous lake.

Vacation? Somewhere warm on a beach with nothing to do and few people.

Knife Lake, Minnesota/Ontario.

Jury's still out on where I want to live, ultimately.

Anywhere along the coast in the Pacific Northwest.

Would love to vacation in Australia. *sigh*

Pacific Northwest, coast, ocean vistas. Lots of small towns I can see myself retiring to, haven't picked one yet.

The Pacific Northwest is amazing. But I still prefer Amsterdam.

Never been there Lex. I hear it is a beautiful place though.

We're all different, One of my friends retired to North Dakota, mostly because it is so dang empty and he could buy 50 acres of trashland dirt cheap. He loves the snow and the quiet.

Does money enter the picture, or is this in a dream world?

Yes, money enters into it. Especially if you cannot get a job there. I was thinking a place to live that is the best place between wants and needs.

Vacation is anyplace you really would like to go..that could be a dream.

Vacation: 1 month with nowhere I needed to be and a motorcycle.

Live: I'm overall really happy with Minneapolis, MN where I live now. I wouldn't mind making some changes on specific suburb/house, but most of those are minor.

Vacation: At least 6 months in Europe (including the British Isles) with no particular goals and plenty of dough on hand.

Live: Any state on the top 5 of this list: http://mercatus.org/publication/freedom ... ic-freedom

Interestingly enough, the top 5 places look like they would all pretty much suck :p

1. New Hampshire 0.432
2. Colorado 0.421
3. South Dakota 0.392
4. Idaho 0.356
5. Texas 0.346

I dunno, I could definitely get behind New Hampshire or a Dakota, I think.

To live? I'm pretty mellow about that, so long as it's not terribly humid. For as much as I disliked Los Angeles when I got here in the last century, I've come to like the place. But I could easily live in a place like the Pacific Northwest. I need a fairly large metropolitan area, though. I find anything smaller than about 500,000 people horribly stifling.

Vacation? Funny you should bring this up, since my wife has just surprised me with a birthday gift of a trip to someplace of my choice, so long as we get to use a passport. But, really, my perfect place is a cabin somewhere in the forest, preferably in the mountains. Either that, or on a bicycle with everything on it that I need to survive.

When you go shopping up there, research the Olympics rain shadow (northern area around Sequim/Port Angeles). It's a not-so-well kept secret that the Olympics create a mild rain shadow there. You still get the benefits of the cool/calm weather, without so many rain drops.
