Hopwin,
A few more things to consider before making your final decision:
1.) An
objective look at the two consoles:
Both have controllers that ultimately offer the same functionality.
Both have a good online service that offers tons of content.
Both systems are more than capable of offering gratifying HD gaming.
Both systems offer a good-sized library of games, with many acclaimed entries. The 360 has generally had better reception when it comes to cross-platform games, but that is mainly due to the fact that a majority of these games are programmed natively to the 360, and then ported to the PS3. Also, many development houses simply do not have a PS3 dedicated development team (like Valve). That said, this disparity on quality is not always on MS's side, and people tend to make a bigger deal out of the few high-profile games where there is a difference.
Between the two, the PS3 has (for the most part) held up better than the 360, although MS has been very accommodating to those whose systems have bricked. When problems do occur, the 360 tends to have more hardware issues, while the PS3 tends to have more OS software issues (like this current Leap Year issue).
With all of that said, the actual quality/importance of the above points is open to interpretation, and personal preference.
2.) I would strongly suggest finding a friend (or friends) that have a 360 and PS3 (preferably with several games for each), and asking them to either bring their console(s) over to your house, or go to theirs and spend an evening with each just playing around with the systems, their features, and their games. A test drive scenario if you will. We all here can spout off what we think is the best all day long, but it won't mean jack until you have them both in your hands and using them.
3.) Game consoles are an investment. Obviously, they are not as important as a car or house, but they are investments nonetheless. These are things that you will be getting years of enjoyment out of, so you don't want to run out and but one or the other based simply on a poll here.
4.) Did I mention I would recommend getting both?
